Forget about about
that record book, we have our own. This season just added its first
note in the books. Shannon Sharpe
of the Shanghai Dragons
tied Rickey Dudley's
record from last season os 28 points for a TE in a single game.
Almost.........
Sharpe
may have gotten his name forever enshrined in our record books this week,
but a couple others danced with the book a little. In fact Steve
Young may have scored a little more than a
dance, yet went home without the full satisfaction.
Young's
gutsy performance on Monday Night Football, throwing three TD's and running
another, gave him a ZFL
score of 40 points. That makes him only the fourth player in our
league's history to reach the mark. The record is held by Drew
Bledsoe's 1997 Week 1 41 point performance.
This also gives Young
the privelidge of being the only member of the 40pt
game club, and the negative
point game club. Young's
mark was a great game for him, though it was not enough to help the struggling
Nighthawks,
who have opened at 0-2.
Richie Cunningham
of the Cowboys almost gave the Yellow Jackets
their first log in the record book. He fell just 3 points short of
Mike
Hollis' week 2 1997 28 points.
Q:What college did Shannon
Sharpe play at?
A:________________________________
Email the answer to the commissioner.
Once again the Hippies
can claim the mistake of the week (not to mention not starting Moss
again). Neil O'Donnell
threw for 2 TD's and 330+ yards. He also ran for another 15 yards.
The Hippies still
managed a victory, but one of these days the mistakes will catch up.
Boy the Rushing race is on. Barry Sanders picked up 185 yards and three TD's against the Bengals, while Terrel Davis picked up 191 yards and 3 TD's against the Cowboys. Both players gave their ZFL teams 37 points this week, which is the most from a RB this season. Along with the ground coverage Sanders caught a pass for 44 yards while Davis had no receptions. Sanders' TD's came on runs of 2, 5, & 67. Davis romped TD's of 3, 59, & 63 yards. You make the call, it's gonna be a helluva race.
An expansion team against one of last year's cellar teams. The Mallards looked to have some of the easiest opening games in the league. They were scheduled to play two teams that finished in the bottom three last year. They were shocked in the opener when the Dragons scored 126 points to beat them. And watched their week 2 opponent open up with a win over last year's 2nd place Wookies. They came a little more prepared to play the Pissants tough and it came down to the Monday Night Football game. Going into the game the Mallards were down and had JJ Stokes playing on monday. The Pissants went in with a few points on the Mallards and had the Washington Defense yet to play. Well, we all know what happened Monday night - the Redskins were embarrassed. After Stokes points were tallied the Pissants needed just 5 points from the Washington Defense to win. They came up short by a point, scoring only 2 sacks and 4 points. The Mallards picked up their first ZFL win 88-87.
