IN THE EYES OF…
…Mezza
A game in dim light:
Another solid hit out saw the Grangers on the better side of the result. The Grangers were already suffering from a few injuries and MIA's as a team of 17 was reduced to just 14 in one week…typical Grangers.
The first half was good for an attacking point of view. The team went forward well and created chances each time we touched the ball. A good run down the left hand side of the field saw a pinpoint cross by Dave and finished (somewhat ugly) by Mezza with the goal gaping.
The team scrapped well, although the challenges for the 50-50 balls were more like 70-30 to Narangba. Again the team created chances well and Dave struck the target on several occasions but the keeper was up to the task.
Narangba scored the second goal of the match from a set piece. The cross wasn't dealt with after the punch from Eroy and it was hammered home for 1-1.
Then the Grangers had a good spell. More chances followed…and somebody scored. I think it was Izzy with a good finish after some good passing. You'll have to ask Izzy how he scored…
That's how the half finished. With 3 players already injured (small knocks, nothing serious)…the Grangers had little in the way of depth (actually…we had no subs for the second half).
Albert started the second half as we finished it…in fact, he summed up the game. After receiving a pass he delicately chipped the keeper from 20 yards with the outside of the right boot. Then limped off with an injured leg.
Narangba pulled one back…but there was not much to crow about as the game ended up scrappy with no extra goals.
One highlight was seeing Eroy (after making some great saves) have a run up front. He nearly got onto a Dave thru ball but it just was not to be. Thank god, we would never have heard the end of it. Dale also made some good saves as the keepers probably had the best game on the field.
Lineup:
Eroy, Ismaan, Anthony, Dave, Merrick, Rob, Froggi, Russell, Ray, Andy, Jimmy, Albert, Cedric, Dale.
Quote of the match: "No Rob, your nose isn't broken". Merrick lieing to Rob about his broken nose.
