Attention Deficit Disorder

 

Explanation

Attention Deficit Disorder, is a disorder characterized by short attention span.  This means that people with this disorder are easily distracted, and have difficulty paying attention.  This disorders cause is unknown, but may be due to parental toxic exposure, or prematurity.  People  who have this disorder often have families with a history of school problems, behavioral disorders, or other psychosocial problems.

 

Other Symptoms

does not pay close attention to details; may make careless mistakes at work, school, or other activities

failure to complete tasks

has difficulty maintaining attention in tasks or play activities

does not listen when spoken to directly

has difficulty organizing tasks

is easily distracted unable to follow more than one instruction at a time

 

Statistics

3-10 times more likley to occur in males than females.

This disorder occurs worldwide in 1.5% to 10% in children.

 

Treatment

There are a number of medications available to people properly diagnosed with this disorder.
