Excellent! A much needed win, Just in time for the Euro chase. 13 goals against Sligo this season!

To put it mildly Sligo were just crap and Rovers deserved to win. It started off smoothly for Rovers, with Marc kenny hitting a free kick to Lawlor which he put wide. That bloody Red Swiftpost Hoarding had made its way down to the corner flag at the other end of the pitch since the Waterford game and this time assaulted Billy Woods in the early minutes of the game. Palmer put the Hoops up 1-0 after 4 minutes when Marc Kenny swung the ball in allowing for Palmer to head it home. Marc Kenny again posed a threat when he took a low driven free after Jason Colwell was fouled at the edge of the box, Broujos managed to clear the ball for a corner. Graham Lawlor later missed a chance to put Rovers two up when his shot was rebounded off thge post, However he soon made it 2-0 when he headed one home after a Richie Purdy cross. Within a minute Sligo had pulled one back via Glen Shannon.

Four minutes into the second half Palmer made it 3-1. Graham Lawlor then made it 4-1 after heading home a cross from Billy Woods who had constantly tormented the Sligo defence all day. Sligo made it 4-2 in the 92nd minute after Sean Flannery hit a long range shot in. Overall it wasnt a bad day for the hoops who desperately needed to get back to winning ways, They should have scored more than four goals given the amount of chances and were caught sleeping when the Sligo goals went in. Billy Woods played well and looks to be getting back to his best, while Marc Kenny looks to have improved but he needs to get some of those deadballs in the back of the net.

Tarantulas "Man Of The Match" : Billy Woods

Tarantulas "Hooligan Of The Match" : MR. Red Swiftpost Hoarding (How he gets in amazes me!!!)

Statement from Joe Colwell, Chairman, Shamrock Rovers Football Club.

A time to stand up and be counted

The events, which occurred at the start of the match on Friday night, were appalling, disgusting, indefensible, and inexcusable. These deeds were perpetrated by a small number of so called "fans". These people are not Shamrock Rovers supporters. We do not want them. They are not welcome at any of our games now or in the future at our new stadium in Tallaght.

We have obtained video, photographic and positive identification from genuine Rovers supporters, of those responsible for this outrage. We will take immediate action and ban these individuals for life. It is up to the club to eliminate this hooligan element once and for all and to this end we intend to implement an identification system.

Last night I felt that the amount of great work, which has gone on over the past two years, was overshadowed by this wanton violence carried out by these few thugs. I was incensed and deeply upset. I wish to assure everybody that Shamrock Rovers Football Club will not tolerate actions like those which occurred last night. These hooligans will be identified and dealt with.

The Club has been made aware of some of the personalities involved and believes that they were working to a hidden agenda in relation to the move to a new stadium in Tallaght. These individuals attempted to de-rail our plans.

To Bohemian Football Club and their supporters, to all genuine Rovers supporters and to the officials on the night, I apologize.

Joe Colwell

Shamrock Rovers - 0, Bohemians F.C. - 0.

Friday 10th March Dalymount Park. Kick Off @ 7.45pm It was a bit of a hectic night in Dalymount on Friday but Rovers seemed to be the dominant team. The first surprise of the night was that Marc Kenny had made a miraculous recovery and was lining out for the team. The game got underway and shortly when the ball hit the linesman, who needed minor medical attention on the jodi stand side after Tommy Dunne Kicked it into touch. After four minutes of play trouble broke out at the shed end and the crowd ran across the shed end and onto the pitch. Causing play to be stopped while the Referee escorted the players back into the dressing rooms, only one arrest was made when a Bohemians supporter lunged at a player. After 20 minutes play resumed, and after 30 minutes Graham Lawlor had a shot saved by the legs of Michael Dempsey after a Derek Treacy pass. A Minute later Ray Kelly shot wide of the Rovers Goal. On the 38th minute Shaun Maher headed wide after a Robbie Brunton corner. Jason Colwell had an excellent chance for Rovers when he hit the crossbar after spotting Dempsey off his line Bohs defence managed to clear the ball in what was the best chance of the game. Rovers should have been awarded a penalty after Sean Francis was pulled to the ground by Pascal Vaudequinn, but due to some disgraceful refereeing it was not awarded. Rovers piled on the pressure in the dying minutes and failed to score despite a plethora of corners. Overall it was an impressive performance from Rovers who have lost their form over recent matches, the defence looked solid, and we could have won the game if not for some dodgy referreeing decisions. The Rovers team thoroughly deserved the ovations they received from supporters as they left the field.

Bohemians: Dempsey, Vaudequinn, Brunton, Hunt, Maher, John, Byrne, Caffrey, Harris, Kelly, G. O'Connor. SUBS: P. O'Connor for Vaudequinn (53 mins), O'Driscoll for O'Connor (79 mins)

SHAMROCK ROVERS: O'Dowd, Brazil, Dunne, Purdy, Palmer, Colwell, Treacy, Francis, Lawlor, Kenny, Woods. SUBS: Stewart for Francis (73 mins)

Leinster Senior Cup, First round. U.C.D. 2, Shamrock Rovers 3. 0-1 H/T Sunday 5th March 2000 Belfield

Rovers made a good start to this game despite the blustery conditions, when Terry Palmer tapped in a Billy Woods free kick in the 14th minute. There were few other chances created in the first half and rovers held their lead into the second half. Rovers continued to control the game in the second half although UCD looked to up their pace a bit. In the 70th minute Rovers were two up with what looked to be an own goal, but credit was given to Anthony Stewart. One minute later UCD managed to establish their own goal of the day when Barry Ryan parried the ball into his own net under pressure from Brian Byrne after a Rovers corner. In the final minutes of the game Rovers eased off the gas a little and the defence was caught out with a UCD corner and a header from McAuley making the score 3-1. In the 86th minute Timmins curled in a shot from the edge of the box making the score 3-2. Rovers held on for a few more minutes and left Belfield Victorious. The small crowd of Rovers fans went home happy with the first victory since January 16th, looking forward to the Bohemians game.

It is all credit to the St. Francis ground staff that this game went ahead at all. In horrendous conditions, it would never be easy for either team to dictate this game. In driving wind and incessant rain, it is a wonder this game was played.

The first incident of note came after 30 seconds when Marc Kenny pulled up and was immediately replaced by Paul Crowley. Kenny's injury, it appears, may be more serious than first anticipated and we await a report on his fitness. After 12 minutes the scoring opened with the home side putting together a decent move on the left side, a cross coming in low and hard for the centre-forward who caught everyone out with a delightful step-over dummy when a shot looked the more likely option. The incoming right winger made no mistake from 20 yards with a fine strike across Robbie Horgan's goal which the the veteran 'keeper could do nothing about. The first half continued and was very physical with quite a few hefty challenges going unpunished by the match official. There were no more real goal chances of merit, however. The second half was much the same except for the Rovers team, which boasted six changes from the first half. Rovers could not get a grip on the game and only for the quality of Jason Colwell's play at centre-half, they would have found themselves beaten by a much larger scoreline. The killer goal for Francis came with only five minutes remaining when poor marking from the Rovers back four let in a Francis substitute unmarked to rifle home from 10 yards.

Result 27th February, Morton Stadium Santry: Shamrock Rovers 1 Waterford Utd 2.

Overall it was sleepy Drunken performance (Tommy Dunne even fell over the advertisements when going to take a corner. I think Damien should reach for the breathalyser:- Ed) by the Hoops who failed to get stuck in from the start and were stunned by an early goal from former Hoop stephen Grant. Rovers later went down 2-0 on the 58th minute with a goal from Robbie Griffin. We got one back in the last few minutes with Paul Crowley but failed to get an equiliser. Here is the Irish Times report:

Shamrock Rovers 1 Waterford United 2

28/02/00: The visitors eased their relegation fears with this well-deserved victory at Morton Stadium yesterday.

Rovers who have now gone six games without a win were continually pegged back by Waterford who only had to wait two minutes for their opening goal.

Initially Karl Gannon had shot wide in Waterford's first attack but moments later, former under21 international Stephen Grant beat Tony Dowd with a firm strike.

Dowd was at fault for Waterford's second when failing to collect Alan Kirby's cross on 58 minutes, allowing Robbie Griffin to head in at the far post.

Rovers threw themselves a lifeline with 11 minutes remaining when Paul Crowley pulled a goal back but Waterford held on.

Shamrock Rovers: Dowd, Brazil, Palmer, Purdy, Dunne; Robinson, Colwell, Kenny, Woods; Byrne, Francis. Subs: Treacy for Robinson (60 mins), Stewart for Byrne (60 mins), Crowley for Colwell (75 mins).

Waterford United: Devine, Smith, Riordan, Whittle, Frost Gannon, Reynolds, Kirby Griffin Markey, Grant. Subs: Wood for Grant (85 mins).

    Referee: E Barr (Dublin).
