tallafornia dreamin! bertie turns the first sod! 3oth march 2000, 3.45pm
YEEEEEEeeeeeeEEEEhhhHHHHHaaaaAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!! Here we go!!! 13 years on the move and at last its definite we will have a new home next season. Bertie Ahern turned the first sod of our new Tallaght Stadium on a memorable day for all the Hoops fans especially the older ones who remember the glory days, what a day it was for them, The player past and present, and above all the man who put his heart and soul into this project Joe Colwell, this was probably the best day of his life! The Hooperatzi started to gather at around 3.30pm at the site. all the familiar faces were there, all the people who have stood by the club through thick and thin. Some of the players also turned up, Tony Cousins, Jason Colwell, Terry Palmer, and Tony O'Dowd, some of the past greats were there also. Bernard O'Byrne, Michael Hyland and Pat Quigley were there from the F.A.I. while Pat Dolan and Roddy Collins also turned up to support the occasion. Ruairi Quinn (is he a Hoops supporter??) and a number of other TD's were there too. Joes backroom staff and board members were there also to lend a hand in running the occasion, and what a magnificent job they did. Adolf and his army of Muppets (mostly Schoolchildren being encouraged to skip class by their headmaster and engage in hooliganism!)made an appearance in a further effort to embarrass themselves with another pointless and shambolic protest. The Gardai politely told them to leave as they were trespassing on PRIVATE PROPERTY, so they had to take their protest outside where nobody could hear their moronic chants. When Bertie eventually arrived he was met with boohs from Adolf and the Muppets but when he entered the new Rovers ground he was greeted with a massive cheer which drowned them out. Joe took the stand and made a speech about the struggle which we overcame and how we were now definitely going ahead.Next up was Rico in one of his shorter speeches about how Rovers will benefit the youth of Tallaght. Then came Bertie who spoke about his days supporting Drumcondra and his visits to Glenmalure Park, he also commented on Adolfs Muppets, and how most of them were youths who would probably be the first ones to support Rovers when the Stadium opens. Then came the big moment Bertie stepped up to turn the sod. he first dug it up to a huge cheer then he tossed it way up in the air to send the Hooperatzi wild, which led to singing and bottles of champagne being popped. Bertie made his way over to greet the Hoops fans and took a swig out of the bottle of champagne. after all the well wishing was over Bertie went to leave the ground and was confronted by Adolf, when his car tried to leave the ground it was blocked by his Muppets who then proceeded to chase his car down the road. This didnt spoil a memorable day for all Hoops fans though!!!! THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT!!!!! THE FUTURE IS GREEN & WHITE!!!! THE FUTURE IS ROVERS IN TALLAGHT!! K.O.H. TARANTULA
