· Enterococcus faecalis 3%
· Staph. epidermidis usually a contaminant
§ Gram negative
· Escherichia coli 75-80%
· Klebsiella pneumoniae 4%
· Proteus mirabilis 3%
· Pseudomonas aeruginosa 3%
² Complicated or Hospital/Institution Acquired, Cath pt’s
§ More likely to be resistant
§ Gram positive
· Staph aureus (coag positive) 8%
· Staph epidermidis (coag negative) 8%
· E. faecalis 18%
§ Gram negative
· Klebsiella sp. 20%
· Proteus mirabilis 15%
· E. coli 20%
· Pseudomonas aeruginosa 25%
· Enterobacteriaceae = E. coli, Proteus, Enterobacter cloacae, Serratia marcescens, Providencia, Citrobacter, Morganella, Salmonella, Shigella, Yersinia
§ Fungal
· Candida albicans, glabrata, krusei
· Opportunistic, pseudohyphae under microscope
