This chapter contains short licks that are easy to memorize in order to practice. The point is to do them with maximum accuracy. The examples are divided in five chapters and they come in two shapes: as Sibelius Scorch - .sib web page where you can also listen in MIDI to the exercise (besides seeing or printing it) and in jpeg - .gif format for those who don't want to download the Scorch software.
Here you’ll find very simple exercises to warm up your fingers and improve their agility. Some position changing. Try to do them as fast as possible and, of course, you may create new ones. Neo – classical licks that will mainly improve your little finger technique. Simple arpeggios. Do them with alternate picking. Major scales runs. Increase gradually the speed until you are able to play them real fast. Chromatic runs are a good warm-up for all four fingers of your left hand. Other exercises that will strengthen your little finger. See the difference between linked and staccato playing. Arpeggios played with alternate picking and strings - skipping. Scale runs on a single string that will make your left hand move along the neck. Pull-offs to increase the control of your little finger. Guitarists mostly use thirds and sixths of all intervals in their solos. Typical in-scale patterns. And a well-known melody with some tricky picking. Another well-known joke with some chromatic runs.
The circled numbers show the left-hand fingering: 1 - index; 2 - middle; 3 - ring; 4 - small. |
