When our lips brushed it seemed like all the fireworks and celebration was for us. I felt myself swept up into the moment: January 1, 2000, and I was celebrating in the strong, warm embrace of my partner, our faces drawn close together in a kiss of undying love. My knees felt like jelly, his body my only pillar of support. We pull away slowly, and I look into his hazel eyes. Oh God, those eyes..!

�The world didn�t end,� I say, not even sure myself if I meant because we kissed, or because of the millennium. Either - or both.
�No it didn�t,� she says matter-of-factly, as if she knew it wouldn�t all along - which I�m sure she did.

He slips his good arm around my shoulders, and we walk out of the hospital. The first day of the millennium should be a day to look toward the future, but I can�t help looking to the past. And for the
