The dangerous asteroid belt in the Hoth system was formed billions of years ago by the collision of two planets. Millions of boulders and rocky asteroids careen through space in orbit together, forming a deadly swarm and a menace to navigation. Entering such a field with a spacecraft would be sheer suicide. On some asteroids there are delicate crystal ferns, which could be a primitive silicon-based life form. Over the centuries smugglers and criminals have from time to time built bases in some of the larger asteroids, including a notorious pirate who was said to have imported huge space slugs to guard his hideouts. After the Battle of Hoth , as the Millennium Falcon tries to escape pursuing Star Destroyers in the asteroid field, it is nearly swallowed by a titanic, centuries-old space slug.

The gas giant Bespin is located along the Ison Corridor, a natural spacelane just off the Corellian Trade Spine. A lightly-traveled world witht win moons, vast Bespin swirls with fantastic cloud formations and endless sky. The rare and valuable Tibanna gas drifts through the exotic atmosphere, and high above the clouds floats the fantastic gas mining colony of Cloud City. In this ethereal realm, Han Solo arrives with the Millennium Falcon in search of an old friend: Lando Calrissian, a former con-man and smuggler who may offer safe haven to the beleaguered fugitives. But sanctuary on Bespin may be as illusory as its gossamer clouds.

Discovered by one of Darth Vader's probe droids, the Rebel Base on Hoth faces invasion by a landing force deployed from Imperial Fleet star destroyers. Echo Base is protected by a powerful energy shield, but this defense can do nothing to stop ground units from advancing. Under the command of the capable General Veers, the Imperial Blizzard Force marches on the Rebel base, unleashing fearsome AT-AT walkers and legions of snow troopers. The Rebels' General Carlist Rieekan oversees a hurried retreat as Commander Luke Skywalker leads the Rogue Squadron of snowspeeders in a delaying action against the dreaded Imperial forces. Rebel losses are devastating and the snow trenches and defensive emplacements are smashed disastrously by the almost-unstoppable Imperial walkers. Behind the shelter of the mountain housing Echo Base, Rebel transports are desperately loaded and dispatched into space, carrying evacuated Rebel personnel and material as Echo Base collapses in ruin under the press of Imperial occupation.

A huge floating city, it is suspended about 60,000 kilometers above the core of the gas giant Bespin. The city's main industry is mining Tibanna gas, but under Baron Administrator Lando Calrissian, Cloud City has become a resort with casinos, luxury hotels and shops. The cityscape has a rounded, decorative look with tall towers and large plazas. The city is 16 kilometers in diameter and 17 kilometers tall, including the huge unipod that hangs beneath. It has 392 levels and a surface plaza concourse. Upper levels house resorts and casinos, while middle levels are for heavy industry and worker housing. Lower levels are the site of the Tibanna gas processing facilities and the 3,600 repulsorlift engines that anchor the city in place. A central wind tunnel nearly a kilometer in diameter channels wind gusts to give the city some stability. Cloud City is the destination of Han Solo and his passengers aboard the Millennium Falcon after their escape from an Imperial task force.

Guided by a spirit message from his mentor Ben Kenobi, Luke Skywalker seeks out the hidden planet Dagobah to find the Jedi Master Yoda. Luke finds a swamp world covered in dense jungles, lagoons, and thick vegetation. Dagobah is filled with weird forms of life inhabiting every corner and crevice of the damp, foggy environment. Somewhere within the mists and murk is the Jedi sage who will take Luke on the path to becoming a true Jedi.

This secret Alliance command headquarters on the planet Hoth has been carved out of interconnected ice caves on the planet's frozen surface. The largest room is the cavernous main hangar where the Rebel fleet is prepared for action.

Large generators provide the power needed to keep the base operating, and a huge planetary ion cannon mounted in a multistory cylindrical tower is ready to hurl bursts of ionized energy into space to ward off hostile vessels.

The remote ice world of Hoth conceals the secret Echo Base, a Rebel stronghold built after the evacuation of the base on Yavin IV. The planet is uninhabitable except for a temperate band circling its equator, consisting mostly of tundra. The Rebel Base is located on the northern edge of this band, amidst snowy mountains. Though temperatures are tolerable for humans in the daytime, nightfall brings a killing cold, and shelter becomes vital for survival. Machinery and equipment are also affected by Hoth's ice, wind, and cold, and Rebel mechanics work constantly to adapt their gear to the to the frozen climate.
