Landspeeder movement was able to take on a truly floating characteristic.
The landspeeder was essentially a car shot with a mirrored "skirt" hiding the wheels which was later optically matted out. The movement and distance from the ground limited the effect of a truly floating vehicle. The original shots of the landspeeder were among the hardest to find as they had been filmed in the final frantic days of production and documentation was sketchy. Once found, the original negative for the shots was scanned and digitally altered. The landspeeder was given more distance from the ground. Realism was added to the shadow detail. Landspeeder movement was able to take on a truly floating look.
