Huddersfield Town Vs Barnsley FC

24/05/1997 @ Leeds Road Sports Ground, Huddersfield

Attendance : 1 (Girlfriend of one of the Huddersfield Team) : Team Photo 35k Jpeg

With a squad of 15 we hammerd the Huddersfield netters 10-1 with there only goal coming directly from a throwin.

Oh sorry I dreamed that.

Final Score Huddersfield Mailies 2 - Barnsley Mailies 1

10.30 First there was 3 then 4. 10.45 it had risen to 7 with the boss and his mates turning up. He did some cajoling and his old man made it upto a total of 8 players. Fortunately the Huddersfield team had some spares so by kickoff time the squad had reached 10 players. 1 a true Huddersfield player and the other a ringer they had fielded from the Leicster list.

We were a team filled to overflowing with talent. During the kickup I think we all managed to miss from inside the box. Before the team photo all tab ends were put out and we stood pround wearing the Barnsley Red (or AC Milan). Though lacking in numbers we made up for it in spirt.

The Squad... Name's to faces would be appreciated.

  1. Mathieson, Linden

  2. (Huddersfield list member)

  3. Lister, Johny

  4. Turton, Neil

  5. Daryl Greensill (Daz)

  6. Martin

  7. Stuart

  8. Linden's Dad.

  9. Striker in AC Milan stripes.

  10. (Leicster list member)

11.15 Kickoff. 0-0 (11 Players Vs 10 Players)

We seemed to gel together as a team pretty quickly. Some people played upfront, some played in midfield and some played in defence. We rotated well all making good movement. A tackle here and a pass there. We had all the early couple of minutes pressure but couldn't do anything with it.

At about 3 minutes everyone in red seemed to be knackerd. Perhaps some more training needed there or, was it becasue we were one player down. 1 player down didn't last long unfortunately. Linden's dad had to go off with a pulled hamstring after 10 minutes so we were 11 vs 9 for the rest of the game.

Some of the more interesting bits of the next five minutes included me taking out Linden in goal as I scythed him down after falling down myself. Miracluously we kept the ball out. It had to happern though, I made a forray forward and we were left with one at the back and sure enough the Town scored. 1-0. 17 minutes gone.

23 Minutes and Town score again after Linden fumbles a cross under pressure and I was unable to make a goaline clearance.

28 minutes our pressure payed off. Neat play by all the attackers and after the Huddersfield goal had led a bit of a charmed life we scored. Daryl (DAZ) being the first ever scorer for the Barnsley FC mailing list team. Inside the six yard box giving the keeper no chance at his near post.

Halftime came too soon. For us as we had just gained the upper hand.

11.40 Halftime. 2-1 (11 Players Vs 9 Players)

The second half seemed to pass rather too quickly. On a number of occasions we looked a bit exposed at the back but the defence coped admirably with everyone helping out on occasion. Special mention though has to go to the Neil as he covered well all over the defence.

All the time there extra squad numbers seemed to show, everytime you looked up there seemed to be theree of there players to one of ours. The only time they really threatend in the second half the play was called back for offside. They had the numbers just couldn't put it past the defence.

After about 29 minutes of the second half the game ended. Martin and Linden both suffering twisted ankles at the same time at other ends of the pitch.

So after 38 minutes of not conceding a goal the Final Whistle. 2-1 to Huddresfield. I think it was stopped because we just couldn't carry on with only 7 players.

Post game notes. Someone infultrate the Leicster mailing list as he was certainly our outfield man of the match. Linden also made a good effort for the man of the match title in goal with some miraculous saves and for carring on even with an injury for a while. I have though to give the award to the whole team because they all turned up and gave there all. Well done lads.

All in all a good lunchtimes footy.

Johnny
