The Fun Lovin' Criminals were formed in 1993. Their name, which represents
the "duality of living in New
York" where it is "hard to always be on the right
side of the law", comes form a Queens graffiti crew run by
a friend of the band. The band are often seen
in smart suits and they say this shows respect for what they
do. It has also attracted one or two female fans.
The band met in New York's Limelight club where
Huey bartended, Fast cashiered and Steve got in on the
guest list. Fast and Steve had played in a techno
band together and the addition of Huey's blues guitar led to
the music we hear today. The Limelight is where
the band got their break, gaining a ten minute slot at
midnight on a Saturday night every other month.
It was at one of these that an EMI records person walked
in and the Fun Lovin' Criminals as we know them
were born.
My Favorite song by the fun lovin criminals is
Scooby Snacks Released in 1996 this is what first brought attention to
the flc, and quite rightly so. They appeared on the White Room along
with, if I remember correctly, Placebo. It tells the tale of a drug fueled
bank robbery and features extracts from Quentin Tarrantino's Pulp Fiction
and Reservoir Dogs which led to Tarrantino
getting a large share of the royalties and credit
as co-writer. Hmm...
