North Rockhampton were the big improvers in last year’s Rockhampton Schoolboys’ Rugby League competition, making it to three grand finals - 13A, 14A and 15A.

Full credit to North Rocky rugby league coordinator Mark Waugh, on his school’s fine performance.

It was pleasing to see the return of Rockhampton Grammar to the winner’s circle. Grammar won the Second XIII Trophy, defeating St Brendan’s in a tight match played in front of 3000 excited spectators.

Grand final honours were well shared last season, with eight schools featuring on grand finals day, Saturday August 8.

Some 54 teams from nine schools played across four age divisions in last year’s RSRL competition.

In the junior age divisions, teams nominated initially as first or second division teams. After a full round of fixtures they were then seeded to play in one of three ability groupings - ‘A’ grade, ‘A’ Reserve grade or ‘B’ grade.

This format ensured that all finals series games were close encounters.
