15 YEARS      KINGAROY      28-31 MAY 1998

Carnival convenor Tony Cush and Co. turned on ideal conditions at Kingaroy, beautiful days and crisp nights setting the stage for a memorable carnival at the T J O’Neill Oval. Could the new Peninsula lineup rise to the challenge and claim their third successive title?

Metro North proved the party poopers and beat the reigning champions out of contention in a semi final. North finished their carnival debut in fine form, repeating their Opens effort as runners-up after another cliff-hanger final which saw them go down to Grant Bell’s Northern outfit.

Wooden spooners last year in both 15s and Opens, North West provided an undoubted highlight of the carnival when they beat fellow battlers South West on day four, for their first carnival match victory in three years.

The championship finals produced an interesting twist, with the defending Open and 15 Year champions Northern and Peninsula trading their respective crowns and finishing fourth, after each was beaten in a semi-final.
