SOUTH WEST REGION

RYAN'S DEDICATION PAYS OFF
Ryan
Capes was a centre with the South West team which competed at the
15-Years State carnival at Kingaroy last May.
After
initially missing selection in the Queensland Schoolboys
team, the student from St Johns Roma was called up after a
player withdrew. This was his first opportunity to represent the
state after his selection in the Queensland Under 14 Merit team
in 1997.
Ryan
has had to overcome health problems to achieve rugby league
success. Like Brisbane Broncos' and Australian centre Steve
Renouf, he is an insulin- dependent diabetic. Part of his daily
routine is to give himself four injections and to test his blood
four to eight times.
After
playing all his career for St Johns, starting as a
6-year-old in Under 8s, Ryan now plays for Wattles Under 16s in
the Roma & District competition.
To
achieve his level of success is testimony to Ryans high
level of commitment and dedication to his chosen sport.
