Munitis is a fast, skilful left-winger who showed during the Euro 2000 that he can become a nightmare to defenders on the opposite side (eg Lilian Thuram). By many considered a better crosser on the ball than the "current master" David Beckham of Manchester United. He also is a very good striker on the ball.

After the signing of Munitis, Real Madrid coach Vicente del Bosque said that Real Madrid had signed "one of the best players in Spain".

. Munitis said on the announcment conference "I come here with a lot of ambition. I can promise hard work, but it is jumping the gun a bit to start talking about goals and assists. I'll be trying to do my bit to try and take this club forward." About describing himself he responded "I have always liked Emilio Butragueño. At that time, there were a lot of good footballers about, and it was a joy to watch them." Munitis say's that he feels welcomed by the Merengue fans, and is grateful to them: "I'm happy about the welcome I've been given. My priority was to come here, as I think Real Madrid are currently the best club in the world, as current European Champions. I have a lot of affection for the club."
