Has brought his game to a new level during the last two seasons. Has become one of the top players in the world. And was by many the runner up to Rivaldo as the world player of the year in 1999.

Raul is the idol of Madrid, homegrown. Started at the club his father supports and loves Ath Madrid, but grew a brain and joined Real Madrid in 1992. Got his debut during Valdano's coaching period at the club.

Raul has a great instincts, is very fit and very intelligent, reads the game well.

Raul took the jersey of Real legend Emilio Butragueno and exploded 6 seasons ago as a 17 year old at Real Madrid and by many considered a better striker than Butragueno himself.

Raul is married to Spanish model Mamen Sanz, with whom he has a son, Jorge who was born on the 25th of february 2000.

A lot of controversy surrounded his being left off of the national team for Euro 96. Tends to play on the left but has a license to roam. Very good one-on-one player. Has taken on big responsibilities for someone his age. He learns very quickly from mistakes and rarely commits the same error twice.

On the 26th of September 2001, Raul put himself into the Real Madrid record books again, this time by scoring the 700th goal for Real Madrid in all European Competitions (CL, UEFA etc) his second goal against Anderlecht at home which put Real Madrid 3 - 1 up, also put Real Madrid up on 700 goals in all European competitions, game ended 4 - 1.
