KALLANG ROAR AT YISHUN
This is the third time this season, the two sides have met. In the first confrontation, Home won 3-1 at Bishan, with Akihiro Nakamura scoring the consolation goal for the Stallions. One month later, Home visited Yishun and walked away with a 2-0 win in the Singapore Cup.
Home United?s officials were probably confident of collecting full points as, they had been unbeatable in their previous eight games.
But Sembawang coach Vorawan was beaming with confidence as well. Especially with the good news that the search for a strike partner for Pitipong was over, Sembawang confirming the official signing of Supakit Jinajai.
The game was an explosive affair with emotions running high. The Stallions were determined to do well in front of their fervent supporters. Home?s J Surachai put the visitor ahead at the quarter hour with a teasing shot from the edge of the box, the ball squirming past Yazid.
The turning point of the game was the sending off of Egmar Goncalves. The Brazil-born Singaporean elbowed Razif in the face, giving the referee no choice but to send him off. Home?s coach Steve Darby later said that it was all about cause and effect, and that Egmar should send his torn jersey to his counterpart. But if he thinks in this manner, maybe we should in return send our advertising board to his defender Sivakumar, as he somehow sent Supakit crashing into the board.
With the numerical advantage, Sembawang started to play entertaining attacking football, dominating about 80 percent of the play in the second half. Sembawang was unlucky, with Pitipong and Supakit both hitting the posts.
Tawan Sripan was majestically superb in the game, as he engineered most of the moves. His presence restricted Home?s Peres de Oliveira to a mere passenger.
With a visiting official from the J-League and new national coach Radojko Avramovic watching from the grandstand, Sembawang?s football was artistic at times. The crowd was in its unusual high, as tensions ran high. Fans responded to every close call by holding their heads.
Home United felt the heat though, as wave upon wave of Sembawang assaults stormed into its penalty box. But it had its young keeper to thank, for he single-handedly kept the thin lead.
Vorawan watched in despair too, as his charges did everything right except finish.
In the 80th minute, he sent on his secret weapon, youthful Norfahazly Kamsan. The burly forward took just five minutes to bring his team level.
The whole house went crazy, with Norfahazly crashing onto the running track and his team-mates jumping over him. The stand erupted with the loudest roar ever had heard at the Stable. Fans dropped to their knees in joy, The 3,479-strong partisan home crowd leapt in ecstasy, as this goal celebration went down as one of the greatest ever moment to be seen at the Stable. KP
