Quake II Review

This time last year we were all reving over the up and coming Quake, it turned out to be one of the best games in the history of 3D shoot-em-ups, but can ID top there own score?

During the summer the worlds biggest games convention took place, 'E3' . One of our reporters (well me!) went along to find out what all the games makers were rambling on about and did we have a good time, Oh yes! We came across a nice BIG stand belonging to ID who were proudly showing off there newest games engine that they had put to use in Quake II. Well what can I say, it's truly wonderful. But what improvements are there to the game? Well for starters the whole thing has been revamped, totally! New items have been added and all the other stuff we asked for, COOL. Things such as coloured lighting, it really dose and a whole lot more to the game, for instance: There is one level where you walk from a normal room into one that is glowing red and I shat myself. I was terrified. I kept expecting forty shamblers to pop up and fuck me up good and proper! Scary!

Other things include a new AI, in Quake II the monsters don't just sit there and wait for you to start attacking them OH NO they come looking for you (in some cases). They showed me one level where you are crouching behind some boxes. The guy made the character get up from behind the boxes and one of the new monsters turned round when he changed the weapon and just the sound of this made the monster turn around, I was very, very pleased to see such a cool improvement. After a moment or so (of no more movement on my behalf) the monster turned back round and went of in another direction. Few.

Other improvements the multi-players around will be pleased to hear about is the fact that when you are playing a death match you can see what gun the other players are using. This could prove very usfull if you suddenly see that they have the rocket gun and you are stuck with the single barrel shot gun. I know that I would be very happy to see this!

The other main improvements include new and better sound affects. I personally thought the first set were dam good! \par So when it comes out I well recommend you go see it!
