Favorites

These are a few of my favorite things....

Books, especially by Rex Stout, Ellis Peters, Roger Zelazny, Robert Heinlein, Tom Clancy, and Colin Dexter ...

It's hard to pick the best links for authors, but those are good places to start.

Old movies, including very old, silent ones with Lon Chaney, Sr.

Music, lots of different types, but mainly alternative and classical

Politics, as long as it's (they're?) Republican

Shakespeare. I love the recent flurry of Shakespeare movies, including Kenneth Brannaugh's recent Hamlet.

Favorite Book I Read As A Kid: The Mad Scientists' Club, by Bertrand R. Brinley

If you find a used copy of this great book, BUY it.A few years back I wrote Mr. Brinley a letter letting him know how much I'd enjoyed this book. He was kind enough to send me a very nice reply, which I still treasure.

Favorite Show I Watched As A Kid: Dark Shadows

This was a campy and often poorly-done soap opera about vampires that I and thousands of other baby-boomers ran home to see after school every day. This show stole ideas from more than a dozen classic science-fiction and horror stories, and you often had to wonder, couldn't they have just taken another ten minutes to fix some of those glaring dialog and special effect errors? But in spite of that it somehow managed to be a terrifically cool show.

Favorite Music (to be played at my funeral, in this order)

Favorite Movies (okay, you don't have to play them at my funeral)
