JC (we go way back!)
"I can't live without your love and affection," 15-year old JC Chasez* crooned on the MMC cover of Nelson's early 90's hit, and this webmaster swooned. "Oh, he's got such an amazing voice, and he's gonna grow up to be sooo cute, I can just tell!" I gushed then, in my 14-year old giddyness.
Well? Did I call it, or did I call it?
Joshua Scott Chasez... known as "Josh" to family, he was given the nickname of "JC" when he joined the cast of MMC because they already had a Josh in the cast. A Leo born 8/8/76 in Washington DC, JC proudly wears a symbol of his astrological sign around his neck in a pendant that he never removes. Ever.
Easily recognizable as one of the lead vocalists in *NSYNC, JC's dark hair and muscular, though thin, 5'10" frame make him sound deceptively non-descript. He is known for (and infinitely many jokes have been made regarding) his seeming split personalities: anal-retentive, lethargic and sleepy offstage, he transforms into a wildly animated bundle of energy when onstage. This, and the fact that he has these... well... incredibly veiny arms, has led to speculation that JC is high on more than just 'the crowd reaction'. When we say that he spazzes, we mean it; JC's onstage performances are truly a sight to behold.
Coming out of a strong Christian upbringing and having attended Catholic school as a boy, JC has retained many of his faith's values. He has been frequently spotted in the past wearing various designs of the Evangelical Christian "What Would Jesus Do?" bracelets, and rarely fails to name God as inspiring force in his life.
JC is, in my mind, "The Soulful One" of the group. His vocal ability never ceases to blow me away. Part Wanya Morris of Boyz II Men, part Garth Brooks (hmm, nice combination?), part something only definable as JC, this guy's voice is unbelievably versatile. I admire his spirituality and his desire to respect others, and vote JC the *NSYNC member most likely to have a successful solo career (though he seems none too interested in pursuing that path).
JC may be the second oldest member of the group, but he acts, so they say, like the daddy of them all. You go, JC, is what I gotta say to that. Somebody needs to do some worrying while the young'uns (and Chris) are at play. And too much sleep never hurt nobody, neither**.
