Random Rantings:
I was driving home from my menial job today, and I saw some of those guys taking donations on the street. I can't remember if they were Christians, Muslims, Republicans, or what. What I do remember is that one young man, about 19 or 20, preaching at the top of his lungs at the busiest intersection in all of San Antonio. He was looking people in the eye and telling them the word of the Lord with all of his might. He must have been two seconds away from crawling into their windows (which were being quickly rolled up). For a brief second, I tuned him out just like all of the other people on the street. Then, I began to hear not his words, but his heart. It wasn't what he was saying, but how he was saying it and where.
Who among us can stand on an island in the middle of traffic and say anything? I am not passionate enough about anything to proclaim it at one o'clock in the afternoon under the Texas sun. I have to say that he impressed me. He was more passionate about his truth than a hundred Senators, four hundred twelve Representatives, one President, and all the people who voted for them put together. Even though he knew that people were tuning him out, even though he knew that everyone at that intersection was praying to whatever God they pray to for that light to change before he got to their car, he still spoke...he still stood there and defied the heat and humidity for no other reason than he was passionate about his truth.
That young man is the whole reason the Constitution exists. No one wanted to hear him, but he spoke anyway. No one wanted him to be there, but he stayed. Everyone wanted him to shut up and go away, but he wasn't afraid. I think that even if he weren't protected by the first amendment, he still would have been out there in 100 degree heat (for those of you not from a humid area...think 200) and proclaiming his truth, proclaiming his passion, and standing in traffic.
I don't know who you are, but I admire you. Would that I had your passion. So let it be posted, so let it be done.
