Behind my house is a man-made backdrop of dirt and grass, overgrown in the summer with bloomed(doomed) dandelions. Dandelions are sweet and chewable. The landscape is employed by the city to keep us safe from the raging waters of the mighty Ohio River. The crazy old man down the street locks five or six dogs in a tiny shed on the edge of the grassy floodwall. I think it’s because they’ve been bad. About ten feet from the barking shed stands something wonderful. A Christmas tree, all lit up and shining brightly against the night and neighboring shadows. It outshines the neighbor’s bathroom light, streaming from the window. This twinkling tree outshines even the moon. I think it represents all of mankind, and one crazy-beautiful, old man. We’re all searching for Christmas in May.
