Hosting of the Bards

Recently I recieved some very good prose in my e-mail being submitted to Custom Stories.  I had not thought of this.  So in response, I will be hosting my fellow bards(as they are few of us left in this day and age of trite media)
Hopefully this page will grow as submissions come in.

I hope you enjoy this first one as much as I did.  Though a bit dark in tone, it is very well written and very honest.  I am hoping that the author Vincenzo V. will send in more.  Please enjoy.

            The Phantom In My Mirror

Each morning as I arise to a new day I find myself facing
   my mirror.  I
for one am in no mood for this reformation.  In my case it
   is not a
handsome sight to behold. The face is of no substantial
   existence but is
abstract.  It has no material body or form that I can
   relate to.  It is
just a reflection but ready to go out into the world and
   make its way.
It is to be identified by those who know it. It has a
   brain which is
workable at times when it wants to be and at other times
   it just remains
in limbo.  My concern is that we never take time to
   understand the
phantom in our mirror.  We never take time to analyze  who
   we are or even
if we like ourselves.  I believe we just accept ourselves
   for what we
are.  That mirror reflects if the person on the other side
   is happy or
just what type of mood he/she could be in.  There are
   mornings when we
say I feel great and look great today and I will have a
   wonderful time
no matter what I do today.  Some days you look into that
   mirror and see
on the other side someone who needs a lift.  I think we
   should really
get to know that person behind the mirror but only to
   understand it.  At
times you wish the mirror would talk back to you and give
   your some
guidance in order for you to go in the right direction.
    This of course
we know is impossible.  Mirrors do not talk.  We only see
   what we want
to see.  At very early age when we are aware of our
   surroundings the
mirror appears very young.  As time goes on we start to
   see changes of
which we may or may not like.  One could develop a
   neurosis if they
didn't take charge of themselves.  We don't have to accept
   the changes
but we still have to live with them. We could take the
   mirror's down and
pretend the phantom no longer exist.  Some people do this,
   believe it or
not.  I don't think that this is very practical nor would
   it be at any
extent of time be rewarding.  The fact of the matter is
   that we should
except ourselves as we are and make changes slowly.  The
   point is that
we don't always like what we see but choices are there to
   be made.  Many
years down the road we say to ourselves I don't look and
   different but
in reality the image has changed.  Until you get to point
   and say look
what happened.  The phantom will always be a reflection.
   Maybe its best
the mirror does not talk back and only that we can talk to
   it.  If it
did talk back it could only say good things to us.  When
   you are
finished and get ready to go out into the world just let
   everyone see ho
enthusiastic and happy you are.  When you return to the
   phantom in your
mirror you will be a better and more confident you.
    Remember you can
never escape the phantom because your mirror will always
   be near.
