Are You Real?

You step around softly and question how I am
Then wait patiently, listening for my reply.
Feelings well up in the river behind the dam
So you pull me close and hold me tight while I cry.

You knock on the door asking permission for me to play,
Then accept whatever verdict has been firmly handed down.
You are my warm sunlight on a cold winter day
Warming my heart and taking away my frown.

I don't spend my time with you as often as I want.
There are times you aren't even really around.
But in my mind you reside and my dreams you haunt.
You are one of the best friends I've ever found.

Are you real or a figment of my active imagination?
Do you exist or have I conjured you up out of my dreams?
My life is much better for your sweet ministration.
Your love brings me joy until my whole world beams.
