Bon jour! My name is Iian Neill, your host in the Renaissance Café. When completed, the Café will host hundreds of paintings, sculptures, drawings and etchings. Most of these images are already on my server; however, it is the encoding of them into galleries that consumes all of my efforts.
Most of these artists are not very well known, although many of them were famous and acclaimed in their own lifetimes. The reputations of most of the 19th century artists here suffered at the hands of the Modernists and their successors, who had an avowed loathing for the kind of representational tradition practised by Bouguereau, Gérôme, Leighton and their contemporaries. Were they right to condemn these men to a century of obscurity? This Archive gives you a chance to judge for yourself.
To gain access to the works of these artists, all you need to do is either click on their name or on the picture beside them. You will then be taken to their relevant gallery. Some artists in the Café have more than a hundred of their works up here - so I trust you will have more than enough to occupy your for a while yet!
