One theory of metaphysics is that you will attract things of like vibration or frequency, and repel that which does not resonate at the same frequency. That which resonates with you is harmonious, that which does not resonate is disharmonious. If you take that into consideration when discussing 'the metaphysical properties of stones', you might conclude that 'subtle energy' of stones may be able to gently nudge your 'vibration' to be in harmony with that which you want in your life. For example, you may think "I want abundance," but you may have a subconscious belief that having abundance means that you are materialistic, instead of spiritual. Are you resonating to the frequency of 'abundance', or are you in disharmony with actually ~receiving~ abundance?

There is no scientific evidence to prove that the accepted metaphysical properties of stones actually yield results. However, science takes great trouble in research to 'factor out' the effects of human potential when doing any study of significance. This 'placebo' effect of human potential to create change is so powerful that any study that doesn't control for this effect is considered poorly done. In other words, the potential for the human being to create physiological change because they 'believe it will be so', for whatever reasons, is a complete mystery to conventional science.

Could the process of consciously choosing a stone with a particular 'energetic purpose', and then having the stone with you to constantly remind you of your goal possibly effect how you react and interact? Absolutely, and why not… it's better than wearing a ribbon around your finger. Does this mean that the stones aren't magic? Well, I suppose it means that the stones may help you access that which is magical within yourself. I doubt we will ever be able to prove that stones really have special power and energy, but we do know that the human potential to create change because it ~believes~ change will happen is so powerful that it has to be acknowledged and 'controlled' by current research standards. Who know why things work the way they do… sometimes it's better to just allow for the experience instead of ripping it to shreds. Heart knowing is as valid as any rational/logical thinking, in fact, they work best while working together.

I suppose it all comes down to a choice in thought or a leap in faith:

Throughout recorded history, stones have been considered sacred objects from the Earth. Many ancient texts, including the Bible, make references to stones adorning ceremonial costumes or being used upon alters to help them honor God/Goddess. There is much folk lore associated with gemstones, usually beginning with Ancient/Indigenous peoples who depended on Nature to assist them in all purposes of life. Similar to Native American beliefs, everything in Nature was a part of "Spirit". Each rock, drop of water, breath of wind, wild animal… everything, had consciousness and wisdom. The Shaman and Medicine Woman used all parts of Nature to commune with Spirit to facilitate healing or visions that would benefit their people. There was harmony with Nature because the Earth was seen as a living Being that nurtured and sustained her children. Stones were the Earth's bones… and it was believed that stones held certain energy to either assist humankind, or to record information throughout the ages. There is nothing on Earth as old as stone. They have seen the full range of human trials and tribulations, disasters and times of milk and honey.

In current ages, the electrical properties of the quartz family is well documented and utilized in industry. There would be no radios, TV's, or Computers without quartz products. The quartz family includes crystals and crystal points, amethyst, rose quartz, and other similar stones. When pressure is applied to these stones, an electrical charge is created at the poles of the stone. This is why many people who are sensitive to stone energy gently squeeze a stone to ~feel~ it. Quartz is also being used to store information… which is exactly what the Indigenous peoples claimed all along. Could the crystals found around the world have records of civilizations long past with an account of the entire spectrum of human experience? Well, perhaps they do and we have yet to find a way to communicate/tap into the stones to retrieve the information. These are all things to be considered with an open mind.

There are countless books describing the metaphysical/healing properties of stones that you can obtain at your local bookstore. It's true that they can be an invaluable resource for you to start 'picking out' the stones you would like to add to your personal collection. Keep in mind, however, that all of us have an innate intuition that should be followed beyond external information. There is no greater resource to you than your own instincts. If you happen to be drawn to a particular stone, or happen to come into one 'by coincidence'… it may be just the thing that your 'inner guidance' is trying to motivate you to obtain. Your own body/mind/spirit is very wise and will draw you to something that it craves to have around, or rather… vibrational frequencies that it wishes you to maintain or attain. The best suggestion that can be made is to get a medicine pouch to carry several of the stones, or other items, you have the urge to keep near you. Some people just carry the stones in their pocket to be discreet. Whatever works for you. Your body heat and electromagnetic field will excite the energy of the stone and the longer you two are in contact, the closer your resonance will become. It's just like making a friend… the longer the relationship, the more rewards. Remember to cleanse your stone when you feel it's time with either sea salt water, smudging it with Sage, or running it under a fresh natural water source. You can charge the stones by placing them outside during thunderstorms or a Full Moon, dipping them in the Ocean, or using Reiki and other channeled energy.
