Struggle For Original Thought
I almost used the same cliché
when you threw yours again,
among the echoes, realized
those thoughts are wearing thin.
I wish you'd try a thought that's new,
just think of one and see.
I think I'd have a new response,
that comes direct from me.
The same old thoughts sure make it hard,
to tell you something deep.
When words repeat they sound so tired,
No wonder talk is cheap.
I realize that when I speak
it often isn't me.
Just echoes from the past I hear
With nothing new to see.
I say to you what's said to me,
regardless of the need.
To find, to know and say what's new,
something new to read.
I want to gain some insight,
to help us in our strife.
I want to think of something new,
Not echoes from my life.
People say the same old things,
they do it till they rhyme.
They seldom get a new idea,
the same stuff all the time.
I know that people are the same
now, as in the past.
But thoughts should be original,
If people are going to last.
Without a brand new concept,
the future we can't meet.
We need a brand new drummer,
or hear the same old beat.
Struggled, fumbled, hanging on
as history I fought.
I racked my brain to find just one,
real, original thought.
