"Marrow, Marrow, Marrow, Marrow, Marrow, Marrow..." by David (Rhyme)
It happened to Marrow. Yes, Marrow was given her greatest wish...to be beautiful. And in doing so, many feel that her character was completely destroyed.
I beg to differ. While I do not enjoy how Marrow's new costume looks (seeing as how it's an obvious Witchblade ripoff), I do think it might have been time for this. While we argued about this on the Uncanny X-Men Board Callistis (one of the biggest Marrow fans out there) brought up a good point. She talked about how for many years we've been whining about the state that Rogue's in (she can't control her powers so she whines constantly), and that now Marrow has been given a chance to succeed as a heroine, and not go the way of Rogue. All I could say to that was amen.
But at the same time, I still am not sure about this recent transition that Marrow has undergone. If her attitude changes to totally sugar-sweet right away, I will be disgusted. But it would be good to use this development to have Marrow feel uneasy about her past. She should be thinking, "I'm not an ugly morlock anymore. Should I ever see Callisto again?" and she should feel out of place if she's put around people from her past.
So far, I've seen a very good thing happening with Marrow. She's developing a bond with Colossus. This looks to be furthered in UXM #373, when they go to Russia together.
We still haven't seen the total effects of Marrow's transformation, and so we're still unable to really make a verdict. Let's just hope the writers do it right.
