"The Next Generation: Part Four - Wolfsbane"
by Bull (Sandkings)
Rahne Sinclair was the youngest of the New Mutants new team. Barely fourteen when Moira MacTaggart saved her from her father, Reverend Craig. Rahne was raised in a very religious household and was mentally abused by the Reverend, who told Rahne that she was possessed by the devil and that is why she had her mutant powers. Her ability to change from human, to werewolf, to full wolf form provides her with grace, strength, and a bit of ferocity. Adopted by Lady MacTaggart and taken to the Xavier School for training, Rahne took the name of Wolfsbane and became the youngest student in the new class of mutants.
For many years, Rahne was a member of the New Mutants. She developed her first love with the new student, Doug "Cypher" Ramsey. She and Doug had a close relationship until he was shot by Dr. Animus while taking a bullet meant for Rahne. Providing the innocence of youth to the team, Rahne could bee seen as the heart of the New Mutants, despite the tragedies that plagued the team. Rahne beat the odds and developed another crush on the young mutant, Julio Richter (Richtor). Another close friend, the robot Warlock, died as Rahne looked on in Genosha during the X-Tinction Agenda. Rahne Sinclair was a member of the New Mutants until the X-Tinction Agenda where she left the team due to genetic manipulation by Cameron Hodge. This battle left Rahne in a state where she could not transform back into her human form. Stuck in here werewolf state, Rahne decided to stay in Genosha with Alex Summers (AKA Havok).
Her stay in Genosha did not last long, though. With the government's growing interest in mutants, a new government sponsored team known as X-Factor. Rahne and Alex joined the team made up of Polaris, Multiple Man, and Guido. It was later revealed that the manipulation done to Rahne also bonded her to Alex Summers. Rahne broke free of this bond and would eventually be cured of Hodge's manipulation as well. As X-Factor started to change into a more harder edge team, Rahne left her friends for her adopted mother's research facility on Muir Island, where she joined the team known as Excalibur. The biggest shock of Rahne's life came while she was there when she learned that Moira MacTaggart had the deadly Legacy Virus. Another shock was the entity known as Douglock, who seemed to be a mix between Doug Ramsey and Warlock. Rahne and Douglock developed a friendship in their brief stay on Excalibur. With the cancellation of Excalibur, Rahne decided to stay on the island with her adopted mother. She is still on the island today, along with several other "X" characters.
Despite her young age, Rahne has become the only member of the New Mutants to break away from the team and become an active member of the "adult" X-teams. We have watched Rahne's character grow tremendously since her conception in 1982. Facing off against her father, the Rev. Craig was a huge step in her growing up. Facing the death of her closest friends also had a large affect on her. As the Legacy Virus continues to ravage her adopted mother's body, Rahne will most likely stay by her side. One day, I am sure we will se Rahne join a team yet again, but for the time being, she is in limbo.
