Outside the X Column #1
"Step Outside the X"
by David Ivanick
You're probably sitting here
staring at this screen with a blank
expression on your face. You were searching for
an X-Universe Fanzine, and
you thought you'd found one. But now you've come
upon this column called
"Outside the X" and you don't know what
to think.
Outside the X? Outside the X?! Is there such a
thing? There are
characters other than the merry mutants that you
love to read about? Oh
wait, right...there's that Spider-Man guy and
those Avengers. I understand
now...
No you
don't. When I say Outside the X, I mean outside
what you're used
to
reading about. We all know about the X-Men and
how they're getting a
whole new image. We all know about how the
Avengers are having solid issues
featuring their adventures produced by the
Busiek/Perez team. We all know
about the horror that are the Spider-books. But
what about those people or
teams out there that aren't in the forefront?
What about the ones under the
Marvel Knights logo who are slowly establishing
themselves as great parts of
the Marvel Universe? What about the ones who
don't even have books right
now? Ever heard of people like Cloak and Dagger,
the Slingers, Dr. Strange,
Nick Fury, and Man-Thing? They've had series come
and go, but they never
reached the level of popularity that our merry
misfit mutants get.
It's
my job to tell you about these people here at
Outside the X. Maybe
I'll widen your picture of the Marvel Universe a
little. Maybe
you'll see
some characters that you really think are
interesting, and you'll hunt down
all their appearances. My job is just to give you
the knowledge that there
are these characters out there.
So sit
back, and relax. We're gonna have some fun along
the way. Open
your eyes, and I'll be your guide to the dark
corners of the Marvel
Universe. You won't regret it.
