"Would you mind not toppling our government?" by Kyle Gavin
Just some thoughts on the Magneto situation, hopefully something to stimulate conversation. Any comments or such, feel free to e-mail the X-rising page or me.
Like it or not, Magneto is in charge of Genosha. The UN, as a method of appeasement has given him rule over it. Magneto will eventually end the civil war on the island, and probably rebuild the island. The X-men will come in, and attempt to topple him. The question I pose, is this, should the X-men do it, and are they capable of doing it.
So far, Magneto has yet to make an offensive threat against other nations. He will most likely rebuild the nation so that the people can live again, and remove the fear of living in slavery, our of the mutates minds. The other side is what will become of the humans. Most likely, he will allow them to flee, and thereby remove any threat of human casualties (that being another topic all together).
There is a pattern associated with Magnus' behavior. For years he's wanted nothing more than a homeland for mutants, that would remain undisturbed from the human nations. He now has this. He may be passive, or he may be aggressive, but right now, neither the world nor the X-men know for certain what his intentions are. Most likely, there will be a story coming up, with the X-men invading Genosha to remove Magneto. This is something that I feel they do not have the right to. Magnus is the legal ruler of Genosha and has not made any overt threats against other nations.
The X-men, are they capable of overthrowing him? Magneto himself has proven more than a worthy adversary against the X-men, but now, he will have an entire nation behind him. And with those odds, I'm not too sure the X-men could prevail.
But of course, this is a comic, and not the real world, so they'll find a way.
