911: Causing a Sensation

With so many pop bands out there with number names like 702, 311, 112, 3T and 98 Degrees, just to name a few, what makes the British trio 911 stand out? Besides singing the ultra-fun tune, "Love Sensation" on the current video release Casper, A Spirited Beginning, the group, which includes singers Jimmy Constable, 21, Spike Dawbarn, 20, and Lee Brennan, 19, can also dance up a storm. "There's more to 911 than just the music," Lee tells BOP. "Our stage shows are a big selling point for us."

911's live shows showcase Spike's, Jimmy's and Lee's fantastic singing and dancing skills, and that's also where their personalities shine through. Fun-loving, with cutie-pie looks, the boys follow Lee's motto of "we need a laugh a night," which certainly comes across in their music - and in person. "We're the same off-stage as we are on stage," Jimmy tells us, "and we don't pretend to be people that we're not."

Though they're new to North American audiences, European fans have already been chasing after these Brits for nearly two years, ever since their first album, 1996's The Journey, was released. Fans of the band have been known to camp outside 911's hotel just to get a glimpse of these fresh-faced guys. Groups of them have even checked into neighboring rooms to get closer to the group. One fan went so far as to tie herself to the wheel of their car so the boys couldn't leave without noticing her! "British fans are [crazy]," Spike explains. "American fans, we don't know yet."

Pretty soon they'll know, now that Westeners have gotten a glimpse of 911's "Love Sensation." If that tune's any indication of what's to come from their highly anticipated US debut album, due early next year, we can understand the frenzy of our fellow European fans. But we'll do our best to behave ourselves in their presence, right Boppers?
