Forbidden Love

She was a Princess. Destined to be an African Queen.
He was but a mere common man. Nothing special to see on the outside, but more regal then a King on the inside.

This huge figure of a man had the gentlest spirit she had even seen. He spoke with a whisper and loved with a passion. He faced everyday with the knowledge it could be
his last. He touched for the good everyone he came in contact with. Spread happiness wherever he went.

He has loved from afar the black rose since childhood. Close by yet worlds apart. He was her subject and she without knowing the ruler of his heart. He lived everyday of his life in her shadow. Loving and longing for her until
it seemed his gentle heart would break. Spending long lonely nights crying in his unprofessed love of her. No matter where he went or what he did he could not forget the rose.

His heart would skip a beat everytime he caught a glimps of her. She had a beauty that could melt the coldest
of hearts. Not only did she have physical beauty, she also had someting rarely found, a beauty from within. She had
everything in this world she should ever need, yet there was
something missing. Something she only felt when a certain
prince among men seemed nearby. She would find herself
looking in the crowd of her subjects, looking for that unmistakable smile. The shinning eyes, for the love she was forbidden to acknowledge. Only then was she some what happy.

She would spend long nights dreaming of him. Crying and asking why..why did she have to be cursed with
this royal birth. Why couldn't she be as he. She longed to live her life everyday telling of her love for him. Showing him her gentleness and exotic soul. If she could she would give up her royal lineage to have the love of her life. To be able to live and walk side by side with him.

She was living with the knowledge that soon the marriage that had been arranged for her from birth was to take place. A marriage with a man she did not love, did not
know or was able to have any control over. They were to unite in a marriage of conveience. He was of noble birth also and they were to keep their royal families continuing and to make them stronger with this union. She cried day and night as the time drew nearer. How could she marry someone she did not know let alone love. How could she profess a love that did not exist. A love that would never be from her.

Then by chance one night she walking alone came upon the gentle giant. He also was traveling alone. It seemed this to be a destined meeting. An unseen force drawing them to the presence of each other. They stood shyly facing one another other at first and then he held out his arms to her and she glided into them and they embraced with all the passion that had been withheld for a lifetime. This was the most perfect love. A love only few would ever encounter.

For some reason they had been blessed on that night. For then they finally were able to express their feelings which had been hiden for so many years. Little was spoken yet so much was said. They embraced, they loved they cried. They finally were at peace within their own souls. Finally able to share with each other a bond that was present from birth.

They had not much time with each other as she would be surely missed and they would be coming to look for her.
Each agreed to meet again the following night and said their goodbyes and embraced for what seemed like an eternity. She going back to her regal surroundings and he to his humble home.

They both spent the night in thoughts within themselves and crying. Crying not from saddness but from finally having proclained their love for one another and setting their locked up hearts free. Free to love and to be loved. Free to finally be able to share themselves with each other. To finally be with the one they loved so dearly all of their lives.

Secretly they met for weeks and then one night she not knowing had been followed. She was going to tell her love the wonderful news she had discovered. She was to tell him she wanted to give all of her royal ties up and for them to go away where noone knew who they were. To start a life together and a family.

She waited for him and he does not come. Then she hears a confrontation in the distance. She runs to where her beloveds voice is coming from and sees. She sees him being held by men against his will. Sees this gentle giant struggling to free himself from his capturs. She cries out his name and he brakes the binds straining him from her.

He rushes to her and they embrace. Guns all around them there is nowhere to run to. He holds her face in his massive hands and looks into her eyes. She sees the tears coming down from his very soul. He holds her to his breast and tells her his love for her will never end.

Then as swiftly as the bullets ring out he draws out his knife and plunges it into his heart. A smile forms on his face and the words "I Love You" are whispered to her as he dies.

Seeing the men rushing to carry her away from her love, she takes the knife from his hand and likewise plunges it into her breast. She lay upon his chest and gently kisses his cheek. With tears in her eyes she tells him of the child that was to be theirs. Then with her last breath she whispers to him "I loved you in life and I shall love you even more in death."

The Gentle Giant and the Black Rose were at last free.
