A Vacation Diary
I took some photos in my neighborhood, the 11th arrt., including some men playing boules. Then I went to dinner at an Indian (Mohit) restaurant nearby that I hadn't been to before. I ordered à la carte and enjoyed the 137 F meal. I took pictures around the 11th, the Bastille district or arrondisement, on other days, including Saint-Ambroise Cathedral which recently had its facade cleaned. The 11th is on the east end of Paris. The place de la Bastille, the place de la Nation, and the place de la République form three of the four corners of the rectangle that make up the district. The Bastille on the southwest end, the République on the north and the Nation on the southeast end.

This morning I slept late and then had a leisurely breakfast and shower.
Leaving the apartment shortly after noon I headed over to the marina just
off the Place de la Bastille. I strolled about, took some photos and wandered over to the Marais district again and relaxed in the park in the Place des Vosges.
Sunday, August 18, 1996
On Sunday I drove down to Maincy, near Melun, to see the Domaine de Vaux-le-Vicomte. This chateau was the precursor to Versailles.
My diary ends here but my vacation ended on August 28, 1996. On August 20, my brother and his fiancée came over from Pennsylvania and stayed with me until I left. They then went on to the South of France and Italy. During their stay in Paris I took them around town to see the sights and we also went to Fountainebleau and Brugge, Belgium.
