Guard Page
COLOR-GUARD: People who swing flags and toss rifles to distract the audience's attention away from the band. Makes the band seem better. Get extra credit if they hit (accidentally, of course) a band member, yet defied if they hit a field judge.
Most people define us as: the flag people. It is more than just that. As I said, we also have rifles(not real guns) and sabers(not real swords). The rifles are a certain type of wood that I don't know the name of and the sabers are a metal type wrapped in tape. The rifles are also wrapped in tape. We also do more than perform at ball games. We go to band competitions and are in the Christmas parades and such. Winter Guard is a bit different. We perform to a pre-recorded song , such as "All By Myself" and "To Love You More", on a tape or CD on the basketball gym floor on a mat without the band. Indoor Drumlines do come and compete at the same competitions. We also have flags/rifles/and sabers in it too. Don't get me wrong. You can use other things in guard , but that is just the basics. Winter Guard consists mostly of competitions. We sometimes perform at basketball games too. In my opinion, Winter Guard is better because you are indoors where it's cool and you can't have bad weather. In Color Guard, you are outside in the hot and windy weather. We don't let that bother us though. All in all, it is my hobby. By the way, CG and WG are not ROTC. :)
I made Captain and Weapon Section Leader for the '99-'00 season. :)
