Previous Page Reviews For October, 1998 http://www.idiom.com/~didogart/hilda/hdindex.html Rating (out of ten): 9. This page is very easy to navegate and includes many different great poems by H. D. (Hilda Doolittle) a writer who deserves to be remembered! These poems are accompanied by an extensive list of page that have to do with various things in H.D.'s life, or H.D. herself. Read a little about her. She's a marvelous writer. The only slight problem is that there is not quite as large a selection of H.D. poems as I might like. Poetic Relevance: 10. The author of the page does not deviate from her subject. Even the links all lead to more H.D. sites, poetry sites, or sites about the lives of poetry. (with an occasional one slipping off into other relevant sites having to do with poems, such as mythology sites for the mythology poems) http://bbs.purenrg.com/rose/default.htm Rating: 9. This is a marvelous page for poetry! It includes beautiful poetry, a contest, and even a book in the making that you can submit your own poems to. The layout is easy to use and the pages load fast. It's updated so often that practically every time I go there I find something new. The few problems, for me, appear in how there aren't a huge number of poems as of yet. Also, I am not completely certain how well I like a number of them. However, for a non-profit organization that manages to run a free contest (and if you think that's typical, you're in for a surprise) and relies on submissions for its collection of poetry, that's pretty impressive. Poetic Relevance: 10. 11. 12. How much more relevant can you get? http://www.denimandpearls.com/enter.htm Rating: 3. The page is difficult to follow due to the pictures without the words in their little blocks. It either loads slowly with pictures, or loads quickly without them, but you can't read anything. The author also shows very little tact in putting all of her web page awards on the first page and pointing out that she must belong to at least four billion different "save the something" clubs. It's not that I mind the clubs or the awards; I merely mind waiting an hour for them to download. I'd prefer them on another page so that I could quickly look at the page if I was intersted. After that, the poetry page is hard to navegate! Instead of just putting the names of the poems out and letting me browse, the poetry is hidden at the bottom with little markers. And then, when I get to the poetry, it's not even good. What a waste! The only redeming aspect of this page is the beautiful decorations it gives. Yes, the creator of this page does know how to design a homepage. She just doesn't know what to do with one. Relevance: 4. Yes, there is poetry. Unfortunately I do have to claw my way through the page to get to it. Actually, the author seems to care more about what awards she's won and what groups she belongs to than what she's writing.
