"
"Beautiful isn?t it?" She felt the arm around her waist and the warm breath over her shoulder. She took his hand and held it, more a loving gesture than anything else. It seemed as if it all were a dream. Was she really here? Was she, in fact, going to have the first white Christmas of her 27 years on the planet? She hoped so. Moving to Boston that summer, Christmas was the really the most anticipated event on her mind. She could deal with the stifling hot summer days and the cool autumn nights as long as they gave way to a cold winter and that promise of the first snowfall. It could be a blizzard or just a trickle, it didn?t matter to her as long as she experienced it first hand. Jonathan could feel the excitement rush through her, he looked down at her and her eyes sparkled like diamonds looking out into the dark night. The snow wasn?t even settling on the ground yet. If you blinked and it stopped falling one would never know that there was a snowfall in the first place. He gently pulled her away from the door and back to the living room. She went with him but kept looking back at the window as if she would miss another miracle if she didn?t take precautions. "Don?t worry, this is Boston, you?ll go to sleep and wake up to two or three feet of snow and then we will head outside for the real fun." He laughed at her as she looked like she was turning over his words in his head. And what if it never snowed again that winter and only those few moments of heaven were all she was going to get? She didn?t want to miss a thing.
"But Jon!" She protested nodding towards the door. A smile played on her face as she tugged at his arm gently. She was dressed for the weather in a thick white turtleneck sweater and black pants, a shield from the biting cold wind that was a staple in Massachusetts. Unable to resist her he picked her up off her feet and carried her to the sliding glass door in the dining room. Before she could even hear the click of the door she was out of his arms and in the back yard. Traces of snow had begun to stick to the grass and he watched as she carefully leaned down, running her fingers over the snow, picking it up with wonder and amazement. There was nothing more beautiful than the sight before him. The woman that he loved in their back yard with a total look of awe about her. If he had his camera he would love to capture this moment on film. He could not imagine her years in California spent without a drop of snow. Christmases at the beach, Thanksgiving barbeques instead of dinners. It was unimaginable. Now that she was here to stay, he was going to show her all of the wonder and splendor of a winter wonderland.
"Come?" She said softly reaching out for him andd he obliged walking over to her and bending down. She looked up at him and the snow softly falling around his face. He was her Santa Claus. He didn?t know it, but he?d brought her the most precious gift of her live: Him, the day he walked into her life was the day her existence began. He was her heaven and earth, her present and future and nothing else would ever matter to her than sharing her life with him. She remembered looking up into his face the very first time she saw him, he didn?t even know she existed but she knew at that very moment how much she loved him and always would. Even if, God forbid, they never crossed paths, he never looked her way, and she never got the chance to just smile at him, she knew that he would forever be etched on to her heart. She was intense but it was just her. She could not explain it, it was Jonathan. At that moment, looking up at him, the gentle look about his smile, and the way his eyes seemed to say "I love you" in so many ways, her heart caught and a tear seeped out of her eye finding its way down her cheek until it jumped and landed, blending immediately with the snow. She pulled him to her and kissed him with so much passion that she didn?t feel the biting wind or the bitter cold of the winter, she felt intense heat and love.
"Jonathan, can I ask you a question?" Katrina said as they broke the kiss, she looked straight into his eyes running her hands down the side of his face. He looked at her and nodded, no words escaping his mouth. He was on his knees in the wet ground and he didn?t even feel the cold seeping through his pants. In fact, he saw nothing but her and the snow.
"Will you?ah how do I say this without sounding out of my mind?will you make love to me, right here, right now?" She looked at him expectantly and sat back onto the grass.
"Here, outside, in the snow!?" He was one for spontaneity but this was a bit much.
"Yes, I don?t know, it feels so, so right. It?s beautiful out here Jon, and I want to make it even more beautiful with you." She hadn?t let go of his hands and he just looked at her loving her more for her daring nature.
"I?m sorry love, but no, not here, I do not think that?s a good thing to do. I don?t want you sick." He kissed her forehead and although she looked a little disappointed he laughed deeply and suddenly stood up picking her up again. "But I WILL take you back to the fire, lay you down in front of hit, and show you in more than words how you make me feel." He carried her back inside as if she were as light as the snow and gently lay her in front of the brick fireplace. The pure sheepskin rug was soft under her hands and before she could say a word he walked into the kitchen.
It was a stupid question, she thought, and it only came to her in the heat of the moment. She looked outside and the snow was really coming down. Yeah she could just see the two of them rolling around outside, sick as dogs the next morning.
"Why do you two have pneumonia?"
"Because we had sex outside, in the cold, oh did I mention on top of the snow." She laughed at herself now and smiled graciously taking the steaming hot cup of cocoa that Jon had handed her. He sat down next to her and held out a bag of marshmallows and a bag of popcorn and suddenly she was craving all three?Jon, the chocolate and the popcorn. He smiled knowingly at her and she laughed.
"You know me so well." She cooed at him as he expertly put 11 marshmallows into her hot chocolate, the exact amount she?d came up with as a child, enough to melt on top as a frothy foam but not too many to dam the sweet drink from reaching her lips.
"And for you." He said sliding a marshmallow around her lips.
"I thought this would be fun." Now she wondered what he was up to as he slid closer to the fire. He winked at her as he held out the bag over the fire.
"Are you really?" She?d never seen it done that way before and he nodded telling her to watch. After a few minutes she heard it, the gentle popping of the kernels at the bottom of the bag and she laughed as full scale fireworks sounds emerged from the bag. The foil on top grew bigger and bigger until they both thought it would burst all over the fireplace.
"That is so cool." She said amazed. Yet another thing she?d never experienced in LA. After the popping died down he opened the bag and the aroma poured out. They sat together drinking and eating the popcorn as the crackle of the fire provided ?music? for their magical night was just beginning.
The knock at the door startled them and Jonathan walked to see who would be coming at 9:00 in the evening. Katrina was closely behind him wanting to take one more glance at the snow. She could see the flakes falling heavily through the window and the tree just outside was beginning to take on a light frost.
Jonathan asked who is it and looked out the peephole but there was no one but the darkness of night and there was no answer to his question. He looked back at her shrugging his shoulders and opened the door. Looking left, then right he didn?t see anyone and as he was about to turn and close the door he felt it, an icy sting hitting his back. "What the!" He turned around and saw a ball of snow being flung towards him. Before he could even open his mouth he felt the snow hit his chest, and slid down!
"Happy first day of snow, bro!" He heard the voice a few feet away and he looked up seeing his little brother decked out in winter gear a big humongus grin on his face. Katrina ran outside, saw Jonathan looking shocked and turned to see Jordan?s smug look and doubled over in laughter. Jordan looked like a 10 year old that was granted permission to go outside and play in the snow, and she laughed so hard that she didn?t take notice of Jordan reaching toward the ground, seconds later she was hit and a loud battle cry could be heard down the street. She laughed as she and Jon looked at each other and nodded.
"You are SO in for it Jordan Knight!" She immediately took off after him as he rushed behind the house, laughing all the way. Jonathan ran through the door quickly, past the crackling fire and outside the sliding glass doors to where he and Katrina had sat earlier. He got out there just as Jordan made it through the gate and Jon expertly jumped and tackled his brother to the floor.
"Now who?s in for it!" Jon grunted as he held is brother down, he proceeded to smash the soft snow in his face as Katrina ran up, out of breath but laughing hysterically. She watched as the two brothers rolled around in the snow, throwing snow at one another before she got in on the action. She made a couple of snowballs, and holding one in each hand she couldn?t resist.
"Hey fellas." She said seductively and both brothers looked up before realizing what they were in for. They both got hit squarely in the face and as they sputtered and wiped their now white faces Katrina suddenly realized that all was not well. No way could she feel the wrath of the two brothers, and she knew very well what the consequences would be.
"You thinking what I?m thinking Jordan?" Jon said brushing himself off. Not even a second later Katrina took off running, with the two men behind her. She didn?t know where to go, but she had to get out of there. Peals of joyous laughter could be heard all around as she ran not wanting to get caught, but purely enjoying the childish antics. Right back at the front of the house they caught her, and pleaded, begged for forgiveness, for mercy, as the strong arms lifted her up then let her down. They showed her no mercy as they all rolled around laughing, grunting, snow flying everywhere. By the time they were through with her she was soaked her to the skin with snowballs, and finally Jonathan called a truce. They all sat up, looked at one another and immediately went into fits of laughter.
"You, you look pitiful!" Jon got out through bouts of laughter. He pointed at Jordan who?s hair was plastered down on his head, his face, shirt and pants soaked with water. Katrina sat nearby her sweater once fluffy and warm now drenched and hanging, her hair dripping.
"We all look like hell." Jordan said and he laughed.
"This was perfect." Katrina thought. Here with her two favorite people in the world on such a beautiful night. How could this night ever end. She lay back in the snow and started doing what any child would do?snow angels. She slid her legs and arms in and out enjoying the feeling, looking up at the night sky. The stars sparkled overhead and they seemed to smile down at her. Jordan and Jon looked on, shrugged and lay down around her doing the same thing. Soon all three were enjoying the quiet peacefulness of the night, nothing but the shush of their bodies as they slid back and forth. Anyone walking by them would think the three adults had lost their minds, or regressed to their childhood, and in a way they had.
Later on that night as the three sat in front of the fireplace, blankets over their shoulders and hot chocolate in their hands they each smiled at each other almost shyly. No one wanted to say a word, or they would spoil this magical night, but something had to be said.
"So, was your first night of snow, all that you expect, and more?" Jordan said to Katrina smiling over at her. How could she answer that, what could she say, mere words alone couldn?t convey what she felt. They had turned this ordinary winter night into one of the most beautiful of her life. They had shown her how something is innocent as nature, could bring out feelings that one would never think were there. She felt 8 years old, yet she felt as though she?d just lived through an sweet eternity in the past few hours. She looked over at Jonathan, her sweetest love, and over at Jordan, her brother now, in more was than one. She smiled at him, lifting up her mug.
"It was magical."
