Great Books to Read

Well..this section is where we recommend really good books. But the recommendations won't come from just us, hopefully. We're hoping that our fellow book lovers out on the web will take about 5 minutes or so to type in the title, author and short commentary of a few of their favorite books. Share your knowledge of great books with the rest of the world. It'll be fun. And who knows you just might find a good book...hopefully you won't just hear about the books that Marie and I read..we read a wide variety of stuff..but not that wide. And I know there are books out there that we haven't read yet. Anyway here's the recommendations...happy hunting. PS you guys can thank two VERY VERY sweet people, Vincent and Rebecca for the very pretty colors you see on this page. If it weren't for their late night hex code brain storming...the colors would be white and yellow..yuck! So a specail thanks to them :0) Love Ya Guys

Well...I haven't read too many books in my time, but, I do have a few favorites here they are:

Les Miserables; by Victor Hugo
This is a really good story, about an escaped misunderstood convict, Jean Valjean, He really means well and has a caring heart He doesn't like to see people suffer, when and this point in French history, there was a revolution brewing Basically, it's about how Jean Valjean really is a good person, despite being a con.
This is a Great Book!!!
An all time favorite!!

Jane Eyre; by Charolette Bronte
A story about an orphaned, neglected young girl and her struggles with growing up, death, and love.
This was a great book, but it's a chick book, I'm warning those of you out there, this is more of a chick book...but it's still really good!

All Quiet on the Western Front; by Erich Maria Remarque
A war story about a group of friends who get dragged into world war 2 and bond, mature, and learn the hard way what war really is about. I love this book!!! Warning this book is incredibly graphic, I got sick to my stomach at one point while reading this, it's so realistic...

East of Eden; by John Stienbeck
This is and awesome book!!!!
An incredibly descriptive tale about the lives of people and how they intertwine and affect one another. It demonstrates what love can do to a person, and also what hatred and evil can accomplish. An Awesome book!!!

Happy reading!!

The Princess Bride; by William Goldman
"Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die." And that in it's simplistic and direct way is how you make a revenge speech. William Goldman's "The Princess Bride" ok, eh abridged it but still the same great book. It lures you in to read on..Of course one can't beat the incredibly satiric sarcasm can it? "I might kill whoever you want me to miracle" "He's already dead." I'm going to explode into quotes..It's just a really captivating and inviting book. Go see the movie too. They're both great. But that's about it for now.

Marie

In My Father's House; By Ann Rinaldi(historical fiction)
---- For those of you that enjoy reading or learning about the Civil War, then this book is for you. Very detailed in its perspective of a woman who grows up living in the South. Not only does the war phase the United States and the soldiers in battle, but it phases the families of both the North and the South. Learn what it was like in that time period, and the sacrifice that each family, one in particular, had to face and overcome.

Interview With the Vampire; By Anne Rice(gothic romance/slighthorror)
---- Here is a book for those who actually feel like they are part of the book. This story was made into a Major Motion Picture starring Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Antonio Banderas, Kirsten Dunst, and Christian Slater. Although made into an excellent film, the book does carry out more detail of the life of a vampire than the movie. Containing some erotica, this story catches the mood of romance in a gothic time period. Set around the early 17th or 18th Century, this book portrays the unknown life of the "walking dead", and fills the state of the book with horror, and extreme graphic imagery.

The Vampire Lestat; By Anne Rice (gothic romance/slight horror)
---- This book continues the sega of "The Vampire Chronicals" leaving off with Tom Cruise's character, Lestat. In the story, Lestat creeps back, retelling his life, from a mere child, to the endless victim of technology and time. On the same level of erotica as the first in this sequence, it contains the exact amount of horror and gothic romance as the first in the sega. This is a must read if you cannot resist to move on with "The Vampire Chronicals".
