For My Love

Rating: 6

Prologue:
The second the Shark was in her room Hope was aware of it. Her awareness didn't come from any noise the shark may have made, he never made any noise that he didn't intend to, it came from the knowledge that the Shark always found his victims, like his namesake he came quickly and stealfully give his victims no chance to run or scream. But Hope knew the Shark, and she had been expecting him. Even now when the Shark was just a hair's breadth from her hospital bed, the only sounds in the room were her breathing, and the occasional beep from on of the various monitors attached to her.
It was ironic that her death wouldn't come from the lung cancer that ravaged her body but from the Shark that ravaged her mind and her soul. Hope didn't move or make any sound, she knew when death was coming because she had seen it come to so many others before.
The Shark said nothing as he injected death into her intravenous tube. He didn't need to, Hope knew why he was there. Before he left her the Shark kissed her softly on the lips.
After the Shark was gone, Hope thought for a fleeting moment that perhaps it had all been a dream but then she felt death begin its slow seduction.
Where there was once no noise, the room was suddenly inundated with it as the monitors screamed their alarm. Immediately the room was filled with her guards and medical personnel trying desperately to save her. Hope knew she should tell them their efforts were wasted but she had another more important duty because she had vowed even in death to protect Merrick.
With that duty in mind Hope clutched at the hand of the nurse nearest to her to get her attention. "A guard, I need to speak to a guard."
The nurse looked confused but beckoned one of the guards forward anyway.
As Hope watched the MP came over, the Navy never trusted anyone bu their own people, she felt her vision begin to blur and Hope took several deep gasping breaths willing her body to fight death a few seconds longer.
"Ma'am what is it?" the MP asked.
Hope beckones him closer and when he complied she whispered between gasping breaths. "My daughter, find Merrick." Hope wanted to tell him more, there was so much that the Navy didn't know, but it was to late death had won, and her last breath came out in a whisper.
"Merrick."
