Last
night I finished Domes of Fire
by David Eddings. This is the first book in his Tamuli
trilogy which is a continuation of his Elenium
trilogy. I'm not going to review
this book or give a sypnosis but I'll say David Eddings is really good
at what he does. There's more blood and guts in this novel than any
of his other ones so far. A pretty good read.
Here we have Sparhawk, Prince Consort of Elenia and stand in Preceptor of the Pandion Nights being requested by the Emperor of Tamuli to help him sort out the civil unrest in the Tamul Empire. However he needs an alibi to get to Tamuli since if news breaks out that the Tamul Emperor is incapable of settling his own affairs he would be seen as weak. If it really was just normal civil unrest the dealings would be simple enough however there are signs that some supernatural force has his hand on this matter and only Sparhawk, the man with no destiny, is capable of defeating a God. As an alibi his wife, the Queen of Elenia will accompany him to Tamuli as a diplomatic visit between the kingdoms. This allows his friends Sir Tynian, Sir Beivier, Sir Ulath ,Sir Kalten and the young Sir Berit from the Four Orders of Church Knights to tag along in the name of protecting the queen. Also in their company is his squire Khalad, the young thief Talen and Stragen. I reckon this is a pretty good read, since I'm an Eddings fan. The good thing about Eddings is that he writes in simple understandable English not like Patrick White where you have to analyse every sentence in order to understand what it means. 13th July 2000 Well Sparkhawk has managed to stop the coup attempt and now he's on his journey to find Bhelliom, the creator of the Universe. Along the way he encounters the Shining Ones, a race of people who glow and their touch means instant death or so it says. You also uncover a few conspiracies along the way and so forth, get to know more about Bhelliom than the little cameo it had in the Elenium. I'll shutup now, otherwise I'll ruin everything. |
