Child of Light, Child of Dark Chapter One Hana walked up to her daughter’s room in a hurry it was fifteen minutes before ten and Sari was still sleeping. “Sari wake up!” She said as she barged into the room. She saw two large luggages and a small one by her bed. Extra clothes for what she would wear today hanged on a chair. Her room was bare. A blanket completely covered Sari’s body. “That girl.” Hana ran to her daughter’s side and shook her. “Sari get up! You’ll be late!” “Wha….” A tired voice came from underneath the cover. Hana rolled her eyes. “Seiko is coming.” “Who?” Sari asked as her head poked out of the covers. She remembered the conversation she had yesterday and knew who was Seiko. “Oh.” She groaned. “Come on, he’ll be here less than ten minute.” Hana picked up the two big luggages and walked done stares. “Sari get off of the bed now and get dressed.” She yelled. The doorbell rang and Hana rushed to opened the door and found two tall handsome guys. “Hello, Sukiko-san.” One of the guys greeted. He wore his brown almost black hair short and his piercing green eyes looked at her. “Seiko-kun come in.” She moved a side for both men to come in her house. “Sukiko-san this here is my good friend Sumino Hisaki.” Seiko introduced his friend. Sumino was a little taller than Seiko. His blonde hair was cut short but wild, while his indigo eyes were stunning. “Good-morning, Sukiko-san.” He slightly bowed. “Hello.” She smiled. Her smile disappeared all of the sudden. “Excuse me.” She turned towards the stairs, which was behind them. “Sari get down now!” “I don’t want too.” Came a low grumble. “Sari!” “Fine…fine.” Soon Sari dressed in a short red skirt and a black tank top came down stairs with black knee high boots adoring her leg and a small luggage in her hand. She looked at her audience with a slight frown. Sumino was staring a little too much while Seiko just scanned her once and turned away. ‘She’s just a child.’ His mind said. “Seiko-kun,” Hana called him. He turned around and smiled at the woman. “Yes.” Hana pulled Sari in front of her. “This is your fiancée, Sari Sukiko.” As she heard her mother say she was his fiancée she winced. She was happy her mother wasn’t facing her. “Hello.” She said politely. Seiko saw the wince. ‘So she doesn’t like this arrangement too.’ He thought. “Hello Sari. I’m Seiko Morino. This is my friend Sumino Hisaki.” He gestured to Sumino who had regained his composer. “Good-morning.” He smiled at her. ‘If you say so.’ Sari grumbled to herself. She looked at her mother pleading to change her mind but she was ignored. “I hope you’ll take good care of my daughter.” Hana said. “Of course.” Sari carried all three luggages with no problem, which surprised the others. “Mother can you please get my leather jacket by the door?” She asked. Instead of her mother Seiko got it. “You need help with that.” Sari glared at him. Her eyes saying, ‘does it look like I do?’ “No I’m fine.” She politely said so her mother wouldn’t say anything. ‘If she wants to play that game then fine.’ Seiko assumed as he slightly glared back at her. Sari thought nothing of it. She turned to her mother with an expression, ‘I can’t believe you are making me do this.’ She quietly sighed. “Bye mother.” “Bye honey. I’ll see you soon ok? Write me.” Hana hugged her daughter good-bye. “I’ll miss you.” She whispered in her daughter’s ear. Sari let go of one of the luggage and returned her mother’s hug. She broke the hug. She kissed her mother’s cheek and walked outside with all three luggages in her possession. Leaving the two guys and mother behind. “You guys be patient with her ok? She might be unpleasant and stubborn to you for a while especially you Seiko-kun. She doesn’t like the idea of marrying someone she doesn’t know.” She tried to explain her daughter’s actions. “She’s still angry but give her time and she’ll loosen up.” “It’s alright, I understand perfectly. Good-bye Sukiko-san.” Seiko bowed and walked out with Sumino. Hana sighed as she closed the door. ‘Please Sari behave.’ Outside the guys met Sari leaning on a black Mitsubishi Spyder with eyes closed and arms crossed. Her luggages were neatly stacked in a row. “Where should I put the bags?” She opened her eyes and looked at them. Seiko gave her the jacket he still held and walked silently to the rear of the car. “In here.” He said as he opened the trunk. Sari reached for her bags but Sumino got them before she could pick them up. “What?” Sumino winked at her. “I’ll put them away.” Sari looked at him weird. “Umm…ok…” She took the small bag from him. “But this stays with me.” “That’s cool.” He shrugged and walked over to the back of the car. “What are you doing?” Seiko asked. The blonde couldn’t help but grin at the frown on his friend’s face. “What does it look like? Jealous?” “Flirting and no.” “No way! She’s yours man. I’m just helping her feel welcome…she’s beautiful but she’s yours.” “Don’t remind me that.” Seiko closed the trunk. They looked at Sari. She had worn her jacket and sunglasses that fit her face perfectly; she was looking at the house she would leave in a few minutes. She looked like a movie star. “You ready?” Seiko asked as he walked to the driver’s door. Sari turned from her house and into the back seat of the car. She watched as her house began to shrink as they drove away. When the house was gone she turned back forward in her seat. She took off the glasses and held it in her hand as she looked out the window. Seiko looked in the rearview mirror at Sari discreetly. ‘Sumino is right. She is beautiful but that doesn’t mean I want to give my life to her.’ He rolled his eyes at the thought. ‘Father I can’t believe you did this.’ Sumino turned his head back to look at Sari. After a while she got annoyed. “What is it?” She asked. “Oh…um I was wondering how old you were.” Sari sighed. “Sorry I snapped.” She suddenly grew a grin and her eyes turned from angry to playful. “How old do you think I am?” Playing along Sumino guessed. “Let’s see…you’re either 16 or 17…Right?” Sari blushed; she didn’t think she looked that old. She shook her head. “No…I’m 14…fifteen in June.” Sumino and Seiko were surprised but Seiko hid it. “No way!!! You don’t look it…you’re joking right?” Sumino asked not able to believe his ears. She didn’t look fourteen not one bit. She could pass being 16 or 17 but not 14! “Unfortunately I’m not.” She whispered her whole face was a crimson color. “Wow.” Sumino whispered. “So is Sari your full name or is it a nickname?” “It’s a weird name. I don’t know how my parents came up with it.” She blushed even more. “Well it can’t be all that bad.” The blonde man insisted. Seiko looked at her through the mirror. He was as much curious as Sumino. “Sayari.” The guys both smiled as they repeated the name in their heads. “Sayari…huh I like it. It suits you.” “Sari, your mother told me to enroll you in a high school and I did. So in two weeks you’re going to school.” Seiko told her. He grinned when he saw the frown on her face like she was disgusted with the subject. “I take it you don’t like school very much?” “To tell you the truth I hate it, but I still manage to get a 4.0 grade average.” She confessed to them and watched as Sumino’s jaw fell open. She couldn’t see Seiko’s face because he was facing the road. “You’re straight “A” student?” “Yes. Why?” she asked a little insulted “No reason.” Time passed and Sari was sleeping on the car seat. Sumino turned to look at her then back at his friend who was still driving. “So what do you think now?” “She’s a sweet kid.” He answered truthfully. “But that’s just it…she’s 14 for crying out loud…That’s four years of difference.” He sighed. “I don’t know anymore.” Sumino smiled. “Well, give it a chance you never know.” “Easy for you to say.” “Actually to tell you the truth if I was the one to be engage with her I wouldn’t worry about the age difference. Besides she doesn’t look her age one bit.” Seiko raised an eyebrow. “IF you were engage to her?” He looked at his friend through the corner of his eyes. “Don’t worry about it. I have a girl remember?” Sumino chuckled. “Heh.” Was all Seiko uttered. A couple of minutes later they pulled up to a parking space. Both men got out of the car. “You get her and I’ll get her bags.” Sumino instructed Without a word Seiko opened the door and woke Sari up. When she lifted her head from her arm he whispered. “Sleepy head come on we’re here.” He slightly teased. Sari slowly got out of the car but her left feet got caught on the threshold of the car and she fell forward with a small cry. Expecting to hit the hard pavement she closed her eyes. Moments passed before she realized she never hit it. She slowly opened her eyes and saw Seiko. He had caught her. “You should try using both feet next time.” Sari immediately felt insulted. Her color rose and she stood up straight. He was mocking her. “Hmph,” She looked away. “Maybe I’ll try that.” That’s when they realized Sumino was watching them. He was laughing so hard he could barely stand. “You guys are perfect.” “Hey you guys are finally back.” A young female voice called from up the apartment building, her head sticking out of a window. “I thought I heard big mouth over there.” Immediately Sumino stopped laughing. “Hey!” The woman only laughed and disappeared in the building. “Lets go inside.” Seiko suggested as he took hold of Sari’s small bag. They started heading for the apartment when Sari caught Seiko by the sleeves. He turned to look at her with and eyebrow up. “How many are in your apartment?” “Only two more counting you three. Why you afraid?” He teased her “No.” She said way to fast. Seiko hid a smile. “Don’t worry They won’t bit.” Sari glared at him. “I know that! Just don’t tell them about our fathers arrangement k?” “If you like, now come on.” They walked towards the building when they got to his apartment the door was open and two other guys and a woman was in there with Sumino. One of the guys turned around and saw his friend with a beautiful girl. “Hey who’s the babe?” He asked. His blue eyes matched his shoulder length hair. As soon as he said that Sari glared at him. “Watch it.” Sumino chuckled. “Sorry man she’s already taken.” “You mean she’s Seiko’s?” The other man said incredulously. His red hair was as wild as fire while his blue eyes were piercing. “He finally got a girlfriend?” “Hey, what do you mean by finally?!” Seiko asked defiantly as he closed the door. “Not only that Tatsuya, but she’s his…” Sumino didn’t see Seiko and Sari’s color go pale. “Fiancée.” You could here an insect fly in the room as silence took over. ‘So much for not telling them.’ Sari thought. “NO WAY!!!” Came a reply from all three of them “You’ve said enough Sumino.” Seiko cut Sumino off when he was about to say something else. “I…we had nothing to do with it. It was our fathers Idea.” He rolled his eyes and walked towards the hallway. “Come on I’ll show you your room.” Sari hesitated before following him into the hallway and into a room. “An arrange marriage?” The woman from before asked again. Her brown hair was long and was kept in a high ponytail. While her emerald eyes were filled with worry. “Don’t worry about it babe.” Sumino said as he put his arm around her. “I’m not worried about that. They make a cute couple. I just felt something very strange about her, but I don’t know what.” “Looks like we’ll just have to wait.” The guy with blue hair spoke. In a room: Seiko was in the room setting Sari’s lug gages down. “This is your room now. Do what you like with it. My room is across from this one. You’ll be starting school in two weeks. It begins at eight, I’ll be giving you rides.” He noticed that Sari wasn’t in the room. He looked through the corner of his eyes and saw she was standing by the door, outside the room. Uncertainty was written all over her face. He smirked. “You know it’s okay to come in. It’s not like I’m going to make love to you or anything.” He stood straight and watched as her face turned completely red. He couldn’t help but smile. She was so innocent and young he felt sorry for her to be in this mess…hell he felt sorry for himself! “You have a sick mind.” Sari uttered as she slowly walked into the room and to where a desk stood. She placed the smaller luggage on it with her glasses. Seiko walked up to her and held her chin in his hand. He lifted her head up so she would look at him. Looking into her surprised and wide eyes he said, “You’ll just have to get to know me better if you want to know the answer to that statement.” He whispered. Playfully she replied. “Do I have a choice?” Suddenly Seiko let her go and a second later the guy with the blue hair came in. “Hey sorry if I interrupted anything but um…can I use your car?” “Why? Where’s yours?” “My girl has it. I didn’t want to go to the mall with her, so she took my car.” He explained. He turned to Sari. “Look I’m sorry for the comment I made earlier. My name is Yuuho Marikino.” Sari looked at him and smiled. “It’s ok…the name is Sari Sukiko.” Seiko walked up to Yuuho and handed him his keys. “Don’t scratch it.” Was the only thing he said before he walked out. With a grin Yuuho looked at Sari. “You wanna ride?” Sari nodded eagerly and they both walked out of the room. “I’m going out and taking her with me and I’ll show her around. If Aya comes back before I do tell her I’ll be back soon.” He opened the door for Sari and as she walked out he asked her. “If you don’t mind me asking, how old are you?” The door closed the next they heard was Yuuho screaming “No friggin’ way!” Sumino laughed hard that was the same reaction he had when he and Seiko learned her age. Tatsuya and the woman looked at him and Seiko. “How old?” “Fourteen.” Seiko simply answered. “WHAT!!!”
