Child of Light, Child of Dark Chapter Two Two weeks had gone by smooth. All had gotten to know Sari very well and became friends with her pretty easily. They didn’t see Sari as a fourteen-year-old child who gets in the way. They saw her as a very grounded young woman. Strong in her beliefs and very sweet unless you pissed her off. She acted more as an eighteen or nineteen year old than a fourteen-year-old girl; she was an interesting person to know. The only person Sari didn’t know was Yuuho’s girlfriend who never came, but he talk about her to her like she was really there and Sari knew that Yuuho was completely in love with her. She had gotten to know Amika Sumino’s girlfriend well and they were good friends in the out come. She was happy that she was also a roommate because she wouldn’t have felt all that comfortable living with only guys. The only ones that were not living the apartment were Yuuho’s girlfriend, and Tatsuya. Tatsuya was like a brother she had never had. She came to him with questions and he would be able to answer them when he was around. At first Sari and Seiko weren’t the best of friends. Always arguing with one another, but as soon as they got to know each other they were beginning to like each other but never told one another. They flirted, argued, and teased each other most of the time when one wasn’t angry with the other. It was nighttime and Seiko couldn’t sleep, he stood up and went into the leaving to watch T.V. He was surprise to see Sari on the couch watching T.V. as well. “Aren’t you supposed to be in bed?” He asked. Startled Sari immediately turned to face him. When she realized what he had said a frown was set on her face replacing the surprise and startled look. “Shouldn’t you be in bed too?” She shot back. Chuckling he walked up to her, “I’m not the one who is going to school tomorrow.” He was mocking her. Furious Sari looked away from him towards the T.V. “Hmph, whatever.” She uncrossed her legs and leaned back, on the couch. “I wouldn’t, if you didn’t go and registered me in.” “What did you wanted me to do?” He asked her as he sat on the couch and lay down so his head would be on her lap. “ You wouldn’t want me to disobey your mother, would you?” He asked with a slight smirk plastered on his face as he looked at her. She was surprised and shocked by his actions. “Um…I guess not.” She whispered after a while of getting over her shock. “What are you watching?” He asked as he turned his head to the T.V. “Nothing really.” She whispered as she began to unconsciously run her hands through his hair repeatedly. “Just some music videos.” She added. “Couldn’t sleep?” It was more of a statement than a question. “Yeah. I feel like something is going to happen but I don’t know what.” She answered. “Weird huh?” “No, I feel the same way.” He looked at her. Sari looked down at him and a small smile could be seen on her lips. After a while of listening and watching the songs and images that were shown on the T.V. Sari let out a small yarn that caught Seiko’s attention. The sleep was coming. “Come on Sari lets go to bed.” He stood up and as he did she followed. She off the T.V. and the darkness took over. “Can you see anything?” She asked in a whisper. “Just hold on and I’ll see if I can get us back to our rooms.” He whispered back. Sari did as she was told and held on to him by his waist from the back. After a while of feeling his way through the leaving room they were at their doors to their rooms. “Thanks.” Sari whispered. “Don’t mention it. Now go to sleep.” He went in his room and Sari went in hers. Next Day: “Come on you don’t want to be late do you?” Seiko asked Sari as he walked out of the apartment. Everyone was awake and in the kitchen. Sari came out of her room in a school uniform, blue white and red. She went in and Sumino, Amika, and Yuuho looked at her with one eyebrow up as she yarned and rubbed her eyes from the sleep. “This is just too early for me.” She whispered. They watched as she took her time getting a toast, and her lunch bag. The horn of Seiko’s car could be heard from outside. “Hold on damn it!!!” She yelled. “Like I want to go to school. Don’t need it.” She grumbled, putting on her shoes and getting her school bag. “Bye guys.” She said putting the toast in her mouth and walked out of the apartment. As they heard the door closed they all burst into laughter. A black Mitsubishi Spyder parked right in front of a high school gate. Teens all looked to see a beautiful girl step out of it. Guys literally staring while the girls wished they were as gorgeous as the girl. “Thanks.” They heard her say. “I’ll come get you later.” Seiko said and received a nod from Sari. “Good luck.” He whispered and Sari flashed him a smile before she shut the door. She watches him speed up and disappear from her view. Sari sighed. ‘Lets get this over with.’ She thought *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* “Who is she?” A teenage guy with short light brown hair and chocolate-brown eyes asked as he saw Sari walk in. “You mean you don’t know, Takiru?” Another guy asked incredulous. He wore his chestnut hair long and his green eyes looked at his friend shocked. “She’s the new student. Only a day here and she’s already the talk of the school.” “Hey, you guys behave.” A girl whispered from behind them. She had deep violet eyes and hair that reached her shoulder. “You better leave her alone Takiru.” She said knowingly. “Why are you only telling me this Tenshi what about Matsao?” Before Tenshi could answer the teacher called for their attention. “Class.” A middle age woman called out. “We have a new student. Please introduce yourself.” She turned to Sari. “My name is Sayari Sukiko but please call me Sari.” “Well, miss Sari. I hope you find this school to your liking. Tenshi?” “Yes, Mayatashi-sensei.” Tenshi stood from her desk. “You’ll give Sari a guide through the school. Sari you’ll be sitting by her for the time being.” “Thank you.” The dark hair girl made her way towards Tenshi who had taken her seat. As soon as Sari sat down and placed her books that she had been caring in her arms Tenshi turned towards her. “Hey, it’s nice to meet you Sari.” She whispered “You too, Tenshi.” Sari smiled Matsao and Takiru turned to face them. “These are my friends Matsao and Takiru.” Tenshi introduced the guys making sure her voice was too low for the teacher to know. “It’s nice to meet you.” They said. “And welcome to Juuban High.” Sari only smiled at them. “Bye Sari!!!” Tenshi and the guys said as they said Sari walk towards a car. “Bye!” Sari said as she waved at them. She entered the car and sighed. “Looks like you made friends?” Seiko said as he drove away. “How was your day?” “It was soooo boring! All the things the teachers taught were reviews for me. I almost fell asleep.” She grumbled. Seiko smiled. “Do you have ice-cream at your place?” “What kind?” “Rocky road and Vanilla.” She answered “We don’t have those kinds. We have chocolate and pecan. Why?” “Ummm…”Sari blushed. It was that time of the month and she didn’t want to tell him. She would be so embarrassed. She always ate sweet stuff when her period came. “well….ummm…” Seiko frowned. “What is it?” He didn’t like that her face was all red as she looked down at her hands. “Sari?” “Can you please get it for me. I’ll tell you later ok?” She pleaded. “Fine but you promise to tell me.” Sari blushed even more but nodded anyways. After getting the ice creams and reaching the apartment building Sari grabbed her books and the plastic bag where the ice cream was and ran inside the building and into the apartment. “How was…” Tatsuya never got to finish when Sari ran pass him and the others in a hurry. “Boring!” She yelled before she closed the door answering Tatsuya’s unfinished question. “Where did she go?” Seiko asked as he came in. He was angry, she didn’t keep her promise but he’ll find out. They all pointed at her room. “I swear…she…I…ugh!!!” He threw his hands in the air and walked into his room. “Amika did you get that?” Sumino asked his girlfriend totally lost. “He said I swear she’s going to tell me what happened even if I have to make her say it.” “How did you…” “I read his feelings. He’s completely frustrated I wonder what happened?” She thought as she looked at the door to Sari’s room. ‘What is it about her that gives me the chills?’ Sari poked her head out and looked around. She got the attention of the others and mouthed the question ‘where is he?’ They all pointed to his room. Quickly she ran in the kitchen taking a spoon and ran back. She almost screamed when she almost bumped into Seiko, who frowned at her. “Don’t do that!” She yelled as she placed her hand on her heart. He had scared her big time. “We need to talk, now.” He practically pulled her into her room. “What’s the matter with you?” “You don’t want to know.” Was all Sari said as she took the ice cream and sat on her bed. Right when she was about to scoop up some ice cream Seiko took it way from her. “Hey! What’s the big idea?” “You promised, Sari.” “Fine, just give me back my ice cream.” “Not until you tell me.” “I eat sweet tuff when I’m on my…” She blushed and left her sentence hanging. Seiko looked at her for a while before he actually got it. “It’s that time of the month?” He asked her as he handed the ice cream. She would have felt insulted and smacked over the head if she didn’t feel so embarrassed. She only nodded. He could tell she was embarrassed. “So is that why you eat two full buckets of ice cream?” He teased. “Either that or bitch. I don’t think you would want me around when I’m in the bitch mode.” She said before she put a spoon full of ice cream in her mouth. “You want some?” She asked as she swallowed. “Sure, I’ll go get a spoon.” He was about to leave when he heard, “You don’t have too?” Came a shy reply. He turned around and looked at her a bit surprised. Sari stared at the floor finding it very intriguing at the moment. Smiling Seiko sat on the bed where she was an inch away. “Alright.” He was happy that she was beginning to loosen up with him, but he didn’t still know where they stood. They were constantly at each other’s throat and now they were just beginning to understand each other. Not only arguing but they also flirted with each other either on purpose or not. Sari took a spoon full of ice cream and slowly brought to his mouth. “Here.” He took the spoon in his mouth never leaving his eyes from her. Sari withdrew the spoon and she wiped the corned of his lips. Their eyes locked for a minute before Sari turned her attention back on her ice cream. “Now I know why you like that flavor. Rocky road right?” “Yea, it’s my favorite so is vanilla…they are the only ones I eat.” She ate a spoon full. “Can…can I ask you something?” “You already did?” He grinned. Sari turned to him with a goofy smile. “You know what I mean.” “Yea ok. Ask away.” Suddenly Sari turned quiet and uncertain. She looked back down. “What do you _really_ think of…me?” “What do you mean?” He knew what she meant and knew that she would ask that question. He just didn’t want to answer it. “Well…umm…we’ve known each other for a while and…well…” She tucked the hair behind her ear that fell. “What do you think of me?” “Didn’t you already ask that?” He teased trying to get her out of her shy mode. “You never answered.” She shot back and stood up straight turning to him with a glare. Her hands on her hips she looked at him expecting an answer. Seiko just looked at her with amusement. “What’s so funny?” “You.” He spoke eyes swimming in laughter. “Seiko!” “Okay.” He stood up and she raised her head to look at him in the eye. He was at least a foot or two taller than her. “You’re strong willed, not caring of what other people think of you. You do your own thing. At first I didn’t really notice you, yea…your beautiful and all but it didn’t make me attracted to you. And you being four years young…yeah well.” He said. “Your like a sister that I’m really fond of or something.” He immediately regretted saying that when the words left his mouth. ‘You idiot! Why did you go and say that?’ Sari gazed the wall ahead of her. ‘Well now I know…wait a minute like a SISTER!!!’ Her mind screamed. “A sister?” She whispered. She felt her heart ache. ‘Why am I hurting like this?’ Heartbreak was her only answer but she had only known him for two weeks and a couple of days. It wasn’t long enough to fall in love, but here she was heart aching and her throat throbbed as the tears appeared. She forced the tears back refusing to let him know he had hurt her. “Excuse me.” She uttered in a very soft voice that he barely heard it. Before he knew what happened Sari was out the door. “Damn.” He walked out and saw only Tatsuya there watching T.V. “Where are…” “They went out.” Came a short reply. “And she left.” Seiko looked at him shocked. He knew what he was thinking. “Where?” Tatsuya grinned. “My ‘instincts’ tells me you should head to a park close by.” Confused Seiko just nodded and left. “He still has no clue.” He whispered. “Looks like we’re going to have to wait a little longer.” Added mysteriously. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Seiko ran to the park down the street and was surprised that Tatsuya was right. Sari was standing by the lake; her back was turned to him. “Hey why’d you run out?” He said in a joking matter as he stood by her. Annoyed at him she turned around and walked at the swing set and sat on one of them. “Leave me alone.” Seiko sighed. He turned to face her but she wouldn’t meet him in the eye. “Come on Sari.” He pleaded as he kneeled in front of her. “Don’t act like this.” Sari snapped her head up angrily. “Act like what?” She growled. “Like this.” “You know you don’t make any sense. You…” She gasped when she was pulled in Seiko’s arms. She stood still not knowing what to do or what had happened. “What are you doing?” She asked as she got her voice back. “I didn’t mean to say that.” He whispered. “I was wrong, Sari. Somehow you’ve grown on me and I tried to pass it off as friendship but it isn’t.” He looked at her surprised face. “Give me time, I need to sort this out first.” “Okay.” Sari whispered as she hanged on to him, returning his hug. “I will.” “Thank you.”
