Brushes...

I use all sorts of brushes to get just the right shape or to create the image that I want. They range from big fat brushes which can cover open spaces quickly, to very tiny brushes which can add the littlest detail. The best kinds of brush, in my opinion, are the ones that are very sharp without any stray or loose hair (sounds a bit odd to call it hair...) sticking out from the rest. A brush should also be smooth at the hair-tip and shouldn't feel rough or tangled. It's easier to control the color if it's smooth.

The Brush...
|

It's better to use separate brushes for acrylic and watercolor because acrylic tends to dry a brush since it's a thick medium. Don't let it stay on your brush too long, or it will be hard to get it off. Watercolor on a brush is easy to wash out with just water. If you use a brush for watercolor AND acrylic, you should wash the brush right after using it with acrylic. Try warm water.

Caring for the hair-tips of a brush...

Another thing I always have to remind myself with is: Never leave your brush in the water container with the brush side down! Well, don't let it sit like that for a long time anyway, because it will cause your brush-head to have this bend in it and it's annoying! ^_^;
You can always trim the brush head if you wish. I know I did it to some of my brushes to get rid of that 'triangular' shape.
