About St Mary's Pantomime Group

Lock Street Club

St Mary's Pantomime Group began in 1970 when productions were performed at Lock Street Club, Lock Street, Oswaldtwistle, lancashire, as a means to keep local youngsters entertained during the autumn and winter months with rehearsals for and a performance at anannual pantomime.  As time went by, support for the pantomime grew so much that eventually audiences outgrew thecapacity at Lock Street Club and performances were transfered to the nearby Civic Theatre on Union Road, where they have remained to this day.

Although membership of the cast was originally only open to 5-17 year olds who were members of St Mary's Roman Catholic Church, this restriction has disappeared in recent years and now membership is open to any interested youngsters who show the dedication needed for the production.

Our connections with Lock Street still remain strong.  Our regular Sunday afternoon rehearsals, which start in September and go on till the pantomime is performed in January, are all held in the upstairs concert room of the club.  It is here, in special dedicated workrooms, that a team of volunteers permanently store and work on scenery and props, and where most of our large stock of costumes are kept.  It is also where our committee regularly meet to discuss our next production and where any fund raising and social activities are held.  It is in many ways the heart of our group and an asset which none of us underestimates.
