I was an au-pair girl (en famile) in Paris at aged 17 just when the Algerian crisis hit. A friend of mine had the front of her apartment blown apart - the bomb was meant for a diplomat on the next floor!

I earned just enough to cover my books and tuition at the Alliance Francaise, not much more. I guess that way they thought I couldn't get into mischief!

My first and only literary prize was won at 15. What did I win? The chance to put the poem into music....I wonder what happened to that?

How I used to envy those who could fit into the long, sleek boots that became fashionable when I was in my 20s. I'd done ballet for far too long and the block ballet left me with dancers legs (over-developed calves).

I loved dancing.....still do, but haven't been out in ages. I thoroughly enjoyed Strictly Ballroom and intend buying the video. I look back on the parties my parents had at Christmastime and New Year with longing. I'd help for days with the preparations. They'd get me to cut the old christmas cards in half. There were two boxes - one for males and one for females with half of each card in each box and that's how you picked your partner for the evening. We'd do the Hockey Cokey at the end of the night (I somehow always got squashed in the middle!) Aaaah - those days were unforgettable. Am I showing my age???(lol)

Music...Theatre...Art...Museums.... The Robert Mayer concerts in London; Eisteddfods and inter-school singing competitions; Shakespeare, German, French, English, Greek....plays and shows...those post-war years growing up were filled with learning, appreciation and encouragement in the performing arts...and I lapped it up (mainly because it got me out of Maths class and Latin!) - sound familiar? No, seriously, I had a ball!

Rainbows fill me with wonder; the smell of a candle when it's just been snuffed out reminds of birthdays; pinetrees remind me of Christmas; certain hymns remind me of Assembly at school; the smell of fires and bonfires remind me of Guy Fawkes Night when we used to light fireworks and roast potatoes in the embers of the bonfire....music reminds me special times in my life....paintings bring back special memories of my parents....
