In September and October of 1996, meetings took place between organizers of the Don't! Buy! Thai! movement and Mr. Sompop Jantraka, Founder and Director of the Development and Education Program for Daughters and Communities in Thailand. According to Lou Bank of Dark Horse Comics, "Mr. Sompop has quite literally dedicated his life to saving children. His program takes youth who are on the fast track to slow death and gives them a chance. He does this work under a government which not only fails to support him, but which openly threatens him."
