Personalities of the Broken Night Motley
The Broken Night Motley is between 50 and 200 strong, depending on who you
ask. Their headquarters is in fact a small freehold, but its location is kept
a carefully-guarded secret. Most are sure that Catherine knows, but she has
never claimed such knowledge.
The Broken Night is itself broken at present, with several different
factions and sub-factions vying for control of the group at large. A sizable
percentage of the motley is not partisan to any one faction, and Raphael still
nominally controls the freehold.
- Raphael Luhen
-
An aging Nocker. Raphael spent three months in the Dreaming, returning with
tales that seem to swell in the retelling and several peculiar items. He
returned to discover the present unrest and a history full of Unseelie
behaviour that he's hesitant to condone. Raphael holds to the Seelie code,
however loosely.
Since his return, Raphael has consolidated a vague coalition around himself.
His politics seem to aim toward moderation, possibly even some form of
negotiation with the Countess' Household. Last time he visited the court, he
called Jasmine a 'cum-infested butterball of a lap-lapping whore' out of
frustration. He's been forgiven, but afraid to return since.
- Rachel Brightwater
-
Prior to Raphael's departure into the Dreaming, this Satyr hung on his right
arm as advisor and lover. His absence left her to philander, however, and she
and her small harem of other men form the core of a second faction, which
doesn't want to bother acknowleging the Countess' Household. Rachel is vibrant
and sultry, renowned for her voracious sexual appetite and the swift brutality
of her combat style. Her greatest claim to fame was the singlehanded capture
of a wild griffin. Rachel recently proclaimed her Unseelie nature as
principal.
- Jason Strom
-
Jason Strom is a Redcap with enough righteous rage to go around. The third
major faction is headed by him and his "Monsters", a group of street toughs
that lay claim to turf about three blocks west of the freehold. Jason and his
crew are directly hostile toward Catherine's retinue, though they don't
necessarily go out of their way to provoke fights.
Jason's view is that the Courtiers are laying claim to turf that's rightfully
his, and that's pretty much a conflicting position. Jason has been personally
responsible for the chimerical slayings of some thirty hapless fae. His gang
has been responsible for countless more.
- Jimmy the Head
-
Jimmy the Head is an Unseelie Sluagh who makes his living in the mundane world
as an assassin. Among fae, his profession does not change, but his techniques
and motives for target do; generally, he selects courtly opponents with
strategic value, knocking them out of commission for a brief spell. He has
taken Jasmine down on two occassions, and other key members of Catherine's
staff on countless others. He has also targeted courtiers in the Duke's court
as well as the courts of several Barons. He seems to delight in inflicting
wounds upon sidhe.
Jimmy spends a good deal of time with Jason Strom's boys and tends to back
their political stance, though it seems fairly clear to those who watch that
Jimmy -- like many of those he associates with -- would rather see outright
war erupt. He has no love for the nobility.
