Technical Skills

I am fluent in Visual Basic, C, C++, Pascal, COBOL (including CICS and VSAM applications), Java, JavaScript, CGI, Perl, JCL, REXX, TSO/ISPF, ASP, VBScript, and HTML 4.0, and partially fluent in LISP, SNOBOL, Assembler, CLIST, SQL/DB2, and Ada. I have experience with DOS, Windows 95/98/NT, UNIX, and MVS operating systems. I have written applications for and am familiar with the structure of Microsoft Access, Microsoft SQL Server, and Oracle databases. I have used utility software such as SYNCSORT, QMF, ABEND-AID, and FILEAID in a mainframe environment, and Microsoft Visual Studio 6.0, Microsoft Office 97, Microsoft Works 4.0, MicroFocus COBOL, and Sun's Java Developer's Kit in a PC environment.

Birmingham Steel Corporation -- Jr. Visual Basic Developer

May 1999 - Present
I am currently employed by Birmingham Steel Corporation on the New Development team of the IT Department. My duties as part of this team are to develop and implement new applications for the corporate side of the steel industry, including the payroll and human resources departments. My immediate supervisor in this position is Larry Johnson, and the head of the New Development team is George Vowell.

Interim Staffing -- Content Enabler

Previous to my current position, I was employed through Interim Staffing and assigned to a temporary assignment at Virtual Learning Technologies, where my supervisor was Roy Gilbert. My duties initially included data entry with light HTML, but expanded in later months to include GUI development using Visual Basic 6.0.

Metro Information Services -- Information Systems Consultant

My next most previous employment was with Metro Information Services of Tampa, FL under Bob Williams. While there, I was contracted to GTE where I gained experience with JCL, COBOL, SQL/DB2, TSO, and ISPF in a mainfrane enviroment.  My duties were primarily in a maintenance capacity, but also included some new program development using COBOL, as well as translating several REXX scripts into COBOL.

Sungard Business Systems -- Applications Programmer Dec 1997 - Feb 1998
My first employment after completing college was with Sungard Business Systems, Employment Benefits Servies division under Jim Jackson. Under him, I was on a team that redesigned their leading software package for access through the Internet. This project, which was implemented with Visual C++, included aspects of data parsing, client/server communications, and Common Gateway Interface software.

Education

Bachelor of Science in Computer Science

Birmingham-Southern College. My last semester at BSC, I was selected for the Dean's List as well as Senior Advisor for the BSC Chapter of the Association of Computing Machinery. My senior project was on Internet Searching Techniques, wherein I designed and implemented a CGI search engine with a companion Java-based Web spider.

Advanced Academic Diploma

Shades Valley Resource Learning Center. While at RLC, I was selected for the National Honor Society, National Merit Finalist, and Who's Who Among American High School Students three years in a row.

Awards/Community Service

I have served as Chaplain of the Irondale Police Cadet Squad, Technical Director at Ruffner Valley Baptist Church, and President of the BSC Chapter of the Association of Computing Machinery.
