I am currently reading:
Flying Leap by Judy Budnitz 1998
What a mind! A collection of quirky, thought provoking short stories like none I have ever read. Anything else out there by Budnitz?
FICTION
The Robber Bride by Margaret Atwood 1993
Atwood, any of her works are well worth a read.
The Vintage Contemporaries Reader A commemorative edition celebrating 14 years of the best in contemporary Fiction
Published by Random House, Inc.
The Sharp-shooter Blues by Lewis Nordan 1997
Wow! I wasn't sure of this book at first but then it hit me. Maybe it's a Southern thang. I will definitely seek out more of his work.
Naked by David Sedaris 1997
I know I know it's on the New York Times Bestseller's List and for a good reason. I rarely laugh out loud while reading. Usually I just think to myself "yes that's funny", but not this time. I actually laughed out loud. Several times.
Talking to the Dead by Helen Dunmore 1996
Not a high-paced book but more mood-altering.
She's Come Undone by Wally Lamb 1992
Very funny and sad, I could not put this book down. Makes me want to read more by Wally.
The Mustache by Emmnuel Carrere 1986
I highly recommend this book. The main character's reality is forever changed after shaving his mustache. Very Kafkaesque. Maybe a little hard to find.
She and I by Eileen Lottman 1991
A novel of which the main chracters are conjoined twins. Very funny and strange.
A Prayer For Owen Meany by John Irving 1989
John Irving is one of my favorite authors and this is one of my most favorite books.
The Hundred Secret Senses by Amy Tan 1995
You can get lost in this book
FANTASY
The Wood Wife by Terri Windling 1996
Everyone could use a little desert fantasy in their lives. Actually I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. This is one of those "Well the cover is nice" books that I bought in desparation of something to read on a road trip.
Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman 1997
After reading this book, I have found myself on the Gaiman train reading everything by him in sight. I also very much enjoy his graphic novels, The Sandman series, which began as the "lowly" comic book. Every night I chant Neil! Neil! Neil! (not really but I am a fan).
BIOGRAPHY AND AUTO BIOGRAPHY
The Divine Sarah by Arthur Gold and Robert Fizdale 1991
The Sarah Bernhardt. If only she were my best friend.
Pre-Raphaelites In Love by Gay Daly 1989
If you love the Victorian era you cannot escape its' rebellious, facinating artists The Pre-Rhapaelites.
The Andy Warhol Diaries Edited by Pat Hackett 1989
Andy Warhol intrigues me to no end. I read everything written about this man. If you would like to read more about him I can also recommend other books.
MISC. TITLES
The Genesis Factor by Robert A. Wallace 1979
Although the subject matter is a little "heady" (sociobiology), I found this book completely fascinating. Not only have I read this book time and time again, I have also passed it on to several friends. This book may be hard to find.
A Natural History Of The Senses by Diane Ackerman 1990
If I were stranded on a deserted island...This is defintely one of my favorite books. Ackerman who writes for The New Yorker magazine explores our 5 senses. Makes you wish we possessed hundreds of senses. Everyone should read this book.
CHILDREN'S BOOKS
A Long Long Song by Etienne Delessert 1988
Fanny McFancy A Passion For Fashion by Patricia Thackary Illustrated by Sandra Forrest 1988
I have almost memorized this book having read it to my daughter many times.
Tuesday by David Wiesner 1991
The story is told entirely by the beautiful illustrations; the only words mark the date and time of each event. Very funny book.
If... by Sarah Perry
Sarah Perry, I wish I had written and illustrated this book. Thank you for sharing your creative spirit.
Those Bottles by M.L. Miller Illustrated by Barry Root
